Here you can arrange online encounters and reminisce over past online battles.

You have joined at a bad time many people have stopped playing untill the release of a new patch because of the imbalances that exist in the current patch. Around 17:00GMT is about the best time to start trying to get games atm.

What imbalances currently exist?

I usually play on Mondays and Wednesdays around 2200 until 0300 UTC, and I've been known to lurk around  on other days about that timeframe.

You can sometimes catch me on a Saturday or Sunday...it just depends on my work schedule and the Honey-Do list.

Kiting with sabre spam is currently the most annoying strat. Also the little known c17 trick is getting to be a problem.

That's kind of funny, because last time I played online with this patch people berated me for using sabers, because they were apparently worthless.

things changed, now the kiting is getting seriously out of hand due to changes to speed. most people don't build them now because they know that the strat is just unfair and is gonna start an argument. so it's best to stay away from them if you don't wanna be called a cheat.

I haven't heard that many people complaining about Sabers recently - but I think I've only seen you online maybe 3 weeks ago  :sweatdrop: . Now it's switched more to K't'inga whining...

I play once or twice in a blue moon.

Sabers hav always been a hinderance to mixing fleets due to being autotargeted and suddenly found dead. Like the B'rel but not as bad.
Kiting shouldn't be that big an issue with them for cloakers. Fed on Fed can just monsoon them. Saber spam is hilarious failure on Borg. I suppose Dominion may find it unfair, but that's an issue with the Dominion, not the Feds.

Since I'm new to the game, may I ask what the Saber kiting strategy (as well as the c17 trick) everyone is referring to consists of and what makes it overpowered?

I admit I'm a little bit surprised at hearing this. In the brief period I gave fleetops a try I remember some isolated claims regarding supposed unbalances being made every now and then but never had I heard about such a widely recognized one, enough to cause the whole community to quit because of it.

not everyone has quit there are still days were you go in and find a few games up me and a couple buddies play on a regular basis even though we do mostly ai stomps but accaionally we do vs. matches. As to when we are online in the after noon from 330 to 11 12ish.

I appear generally between 2200 and 0100 Central Standard Time. Usually late enough that there isn't much conversation on Tunngle.

oh that, i just made that up for a little fun. wasn't aimed at the new players.

most players hate the sabre seeing as it gets shot first, try experiment with it, the only way anyone will get good at non standard strats is by trying them. c17 doesn't have a "trick", but it is plain awesome enough already :D

sorry if i misled you

sooooo booooored, living on a 3g connection is like trying to download all of wikipedia porn over dialup cup and string  :crybaby:

From what I remember of the little I've ever known I thought Monsoons were the main tanking force in the federation arsenal. They are just slightly more expensive than the Sabre yet have a considerably higher defense value (well, still low enough to draw autotargeted fire anyway) and the HDSG ability. Although I understand you didn't really mean Sabres were the reason people quit I still fail to see a situation where choosing Monsoons over them wouldn't be a more reasonable choice. Does it have anything to do with their specials?

Sabres are long range and get improved torp dodge. A few of them can help clear out annoying fighters or frustrate enemy late game ships.

Monsoons are easier to use/spam so the gap looks bigger than it actually is.
