Personally i believe that option number two is the best option.
Option 1 would allow for possible biased teams, for instance pairing stardust and clintsat, well that would be something very difficult to face, and would also perhaps be unfair to people who can not find partners.
Option 3 however, is a random selection every round, this tests the players ability to cope with a new partner, and how easily they can adapt, i like this option over option one, however the drawback is that it could turn into just the best players advancing,
Option 2 is my favorite, i believe this really would allow what makes a good team to shine, the ability to adapt, and develope some playing chemistry, being able to work well as a team, and being able as you work together round by round, to develope your ability to play together even more, and it also means that the person you get placed with is completely random, so it also tests your ability to help your partner develope as a player, which is why this would be a good option for new and battle hardened players
