Greetings fellow forum-goers! Now you are probably wondering what the heck the title of this thread means exactly, but I shan’t tell you in this sentence. Over the past week or so, you might have noticed Red-Man-Mark hosting games which cannot be joined due to the dreaded “different version”. I am thus proud to present that this different version you see is in fact a modded version of Fleet Operations which will allow you to play the closest thing to a campaign at the moment. For the first installment there will be ten maps, which are designed to be played in a specific order. These will come with mission objectives and other goodies designed to not only let you have fun beating the bad guys, but also hopefully to teach those of you who are new or who are having trouble. Unfortunately, due to the constraints of Armada II, these maps must be played multiplayer (aka: two humans). So grab your best bud, relax, and fight your way through the fleets of your favorite Star-Trek villains!

Of course, you might notice that there are no files attached yet. The files necessary for download will be posted in a few weeks once the map/campaign pack is finished. All that will be necessary to play with a friend will be to take these files, put them in their respective places in the Fleet Operations directory, and go online/lan. Note that this will make your game incompatible with people who have not downloaded the files, so be sure to either install another copy of FO, or remember to remove these files when you are done.

Lastly, I’d like to see what sort of feeling there is about this idea: so please respond to the poll.

This means you will have to install a copy of FO 3.0.5a on you system and then import your mission-files? What exactly did you mod?

Anyway I'm really corious to see what you produced. :woot:

EDIT: Red-Man-Mark, what part of FO did you alter?

Sadly it won't Ray  :(
This is because these are individual maps with triggers etc which means the AI can't figure out what it's doing and thus the reason behind having player vs player. The Armada II campaign is hard coded into the engine and thus has its own section which is very difficult to change I believe.  :crybaby:

Are you and your teammate on the same team?  Or on opposing sides?  I know for me it would be possible to set up my laptop as the second player and then just play it myself.  Although the cooperative aspect would provide a better community feel.  Amazing job.  I can't wait to see what this looks like.

all i have truly done is modify their warp in command and adjust some odfs...

all my new odf's are in a fodler called "stations" and no original flops files are modified or touched so you can easily add or remvoe this mod just by taking that folder out and some of the custom techtree files ive made.

because the only map that allows you to choose custom units to start with is a mp-assualt map both players have to be on opposing sides, i can actually create 3-4 player maps where you can co-op play agaisnt someone but because this will require human vs human im trying to keep them as one vs one right now...

unfortunetly as Dominus said, the AI likes to follow a build list, and on maps where its not given a construction ship it doesn't know what to do with all its ship and just sits there stuck in a loop trying to work out how to build its first starbase and so does nothing unless you attack it, but it wont chase you or anything :( (im hoping DocaCola or Optec can help me get round this later)

...

At the moment i am taking ideas for maps, so if you have any ideas for missions please post them here and ill do my best to recreate them with what i am able to do... Please be aware some of the maps will require you to play at speed 2 so you can truly micro and take advantage of the map and what it has in it (this is for the harder missions).

As Ive already told you over MSN, wolf 359 would be nice :P As would the great dominion war battles :P

a dmoinion war based mission is already on the list that involves defending relays or you loose...

i also have one for the borg where you need to stop them building a transwarp gate or you loose too..

Wolf 359 would be great but it means adding brand new sods and textures which im trying to avoid to see peoples response, and if they like it i'll think about adding new ships and stations to make more varied maps...

the campaign i told you about will come if people like the initial release which has no story, the maps just get harder as you go along...

something similar will be included on future FO patches, called map-events. Marks aproach might be a nice preview for you what is possible
we are aiming for more interactive and vivid maps then just static astroid belts

Optec don't steal my thunder  :sweatdrop:

nah im kidding, i obviously know you have map-events planned, but in the mean time im just trying to give people more varied maps whilst you guys work away... Also map-events are slightly different from what im doing as im not giving you a scout, two construction ships and a starbase for starting units...

it all depends on the map what units you start with, what you may have to and may not have to research, what you do and don't need to kill to win and so on...

Yes, Mark has been quite busy with work recently: he told me that he should be getting back to that soon... though I don't know when.
