Whats going on in here?
An easy way to get team games started faster and mostly balanced.
Let me explain you (or the ones i missed so far) the uber cool and simple pickup tradition that many people used for decades. Hopefully the few guys who never understood my explanation on TS3 will get to know it better this way.
What do we need?
4-8 players and a coin, 2+ for duel mode.
How does it work?
1.) you select the two best players (or two at the same skill level), one goes on the top team, other one on the bottom. If nobody wants to be team captain, host decides, or you may use a dice to do it by random. (the dice roller-a java script)
2.) you flip a coin who may start the pick
3.) coinflip winner selects the first player for his team, then the other one, and so on.
4.) profit
What are the benefits?
Often in team games you got a few good players, and a few newcomers, so playing alliances is maybe not an option. If you go for manual balancing it mostly ends up in endless lobby battles and / or whining. If one side loses even more whining starts, aka "mimimimi teams have been unfair".
This way the teams are set by the two team captains, so it basically all goes down how well you pick, and how good you play together. Remember to pick players / races you interact better with, which is more important in team games.
Advanced PickUp
- Coinflip gives the winner an option: map choice or first pick - loser of the flip gets the opposite.
So if the winner decides to go for the first pick, the loser may pick the map, and the other way around.
- for duel games / tourneys with a map pool: winner may pick first map out of the map pool, but has to select his race first, or the other way around. Winner may give the race + map pick to the enemy.
Disadvantages?
- haters gonna hate
- whiners gonna whine
Two problems that aren't fixed by this. :/
Have fun!

Sounds good to me.
You may want to add an option for those that want to do a map with fewer slots than players, but use the armada settings to have some people armadaing up.
Of course that feature is almost never used so may not be as much of an issue.
