Hello!

I've seen a number of people in the forums and on Tunngle ask about the fastest way to practice and get good at playing Fleetops online with others.  I thought I'd share my thoughts on good ways to go about prepping yourself for multiplayer :).

1.  Pick a Race and Play Some AI Games!

Get used to one faction and learn how it's stations and ships are arranged.  "Oh right, I need Starfleet Science AND Starfleet Engineering to make Starfleet Command.  That takes some time...".  Play some simple games against the AI and feel out what it takes to field ships of different types and different types of research.  That way you'll be familiar with that faction's units/structures when you----

2.  Check Out the GUIDE!!!!

Dominus_Noctis, Zebh, and lots of others have worked very hard to make this fantastic site to help people familiarize themselves with Fleetops and join the Multiplayer Community.  The STRATEGY and BUILD ORDERS sections are kept relatively up to date and are always an excellent thing to check out.  Dom and others have spent a lot of time trying out different things in order to provide excellent starting builds for players who are facing other humans :).

So check out the build orders for the Faction with which you began your AI games!  They are not set in stone, but 95% of the time they are the most efficient way to set up your base and begin producing ships.  If it were me, I wouldn't worry TOO much about what each build order counters because you'll find that out eventually =D.

2a.  Watch Some Replays on the Guide

There are a whole host of replays made by multiple people.  It's arranged neatly in the Guide as a database for easy browsing.  Check out some 1v1's of matchups that include the race you picked!  Watch a couple where your faction wins and a couple where your faction loses - that help you get a feel for when things tend to pick up or go sour in terms of your faction's gameplay ^-^.

3.  Play Some Online Games!  :woot:

Tried spamming Intrepids from two yards and got slaughtered by Romulan Leahvals?  Check the guide and find a new build order!!!  When you try that build and get your butt kicked - you'll know it's time to check the Guide and see what it says about that build!  You'll find out that defeating Leahval spam as Feds is pretty tough - but you can do it :D.  Find a new build order and get back out there!  Try using those Monsoons in large quantities with Proxy Torpedo and spank those nasty Romulan Leahvals :D.

4.  Talk to People in the Community!

Fleetops has a pretty friendly community both in the forums and on Tunngle.  If you ask around about a foe you're having difficulty beating, then just say, "Hey!  I can't seem to stop that silly Borg Scube/Probe rush as Federation!  Anyone have any suggestions?".  Most likely someone will have come across the same problem and will be happy to share their insight with you ^-^.  Take their advice and try it out when you get the chance.  Maybe they'll tell you to alter your build order, be more/less aggressive, or simply just to improve the micromanagement of your units. :sweatdrop:

5.  Don't Give Up
!

Flops has been around for a while now and there are a number of pretty good players.  Sometimes a build order that counters another can still lose if the players are of varying skill levels.  Don't worry!  Just keep playing and your micro, macro, and timing will improve!

Hope that helps!  Again, the GUIDE is a fantastic place to get started!
