You know that you could still write a guide even if it isn't for the competition Ray. That's what I had planned on doing initially (heck, I started before the competition even began), but then was softly pushed to join. The goal isn't to win really (especially considering that there are only 3 entries anyway: 2 play, one observes), it's to encourage old and new members to learn new tactics and to share their experience. Plus, its not like I've stopped writing: I WILL release the Borg guide by next weekend, I guarantee it (even if certain sections will be out of date because of patch 3.0.6)!

EDIT: korekted an horriblee glairng tiepo. Gee whiz, I cant not beleeve eye did that. Guess I haf to stoppe posting now.  :whistling:

I agree with Dominius_Noctis. I had also started writing before this competition. And I will update my guide, in fact I have already written some new material to it. This competition just gave me some extra motivation to finish and publish it.

So here's my question then.

If indeed you 2 started writing before the competition itself, Ray's argument of exams and finals isnt quite debunked...
Baron seems to have cited you 2 as examples, yet now we learn that this was already under way before the competition even began..

In all fairness how were ppl like ray supposed to get thigns together.

Whether they would prepare utter gibberish is a secondary point... but here it appears the candidates were preparing for something even before any declaration, giving them an unnecessary edge.

Well, I wrote about 90% of my guide during last week (the competition week). I didn't have anything like a nearly finished guide at week ago. Of course because I have planned things before it probably made writing a little bit easier.

exactly. preplanned vs impromptu is certainly an edge... and for a competition it is not fair to the others wishing to contest...

I am not in college and am not part of this competition.. but in the interest of fairness I do recommend that the extended time be given to ALL those wishing to participate.

for starters, the organizers needed to actually ask those desirous to submit their names - and then decide on a timeframe that is equitable for ALL.

Maybe we could have another one... Devs please.

No one known about this competition before Baron's post. It was purely good luck for us. I didn't have a finished guide waiting for a situation like this! I don't have a lot of spare time to spend in this kind of projects, so I had to do a lot of work to get it ready in a week.

I'd say that anyone who have enough knowledge about Fleet Operations and some time to spare could have written something in a week. Baron did write a Klingon strategy guide, and I don' t think that he had planned it before, after all he don't need to participate in this competition.

Anyway, I will agree with whatever will be decided about this competition by organizers.

Actually, this competition is pretty much concluded. The contestants did a good job, and the winner has certainly earned his right to play.

I would however request that the devs have one more so that those who were left out do indeed get a chance.

Perhaps for version 3.06 since that version will have gameplay changes.

I do not participate in these competitions - dont want college deja vu.... lol...
but for those who did feel left out or unfairly sidelined, a second opportunity would be fair recompense...

wouldn't you agree?

You mean you would write mine and Dominus Fed guide that we taught you online and you've been using ever since? That would only take a couple of hours max to write... Baron didn't say it ahd to be long or anything, just something simple

You've been playing the game, posting on here, you've had plenty of time to do it...

and for the facts dominus had wrote barely anything till i nudged him and it was planned...

Look guys, Im not going to repeat myself. Serpicius and ray can read my reply in the winner poll thread.

Because of Doms and Zebhs post Im going to say this: The competition did what my intention was, provide a sufficient "want" factor that made them finish their work. Its unlucky that more people didnt join, but it is what it is and we got 3 great posts because of it :P

Oh and btw, I had posted this thread in here as soon as I arranged the game with the devs, thats why it wasnt known in advance about the competiton.
And anyone can try and set up a game with the devs, so we can have more of these things. Here was my initial idea on the matter though:
-I would start this competition and because of it we would get a lot of great new things to debate about. We only got 3 and the response from the community was very weak right untill the last day when some posts entered the competition. And right now, it seems this is getting a lot of negative feedback, because it seems some people are just grudgy.
-If the initial idea of the competition would be a success I would try my hardest to persuade the mods to actually do these things once a month. I would need some stuff to prove my point that this is for the good of the community (now ask yourself if I got more negative or positive stuff from it, and Im not trying to take away anything from the incredible posts that were submitted).
-Each competiton would be about different topic, one about tutorials, one about maps etc etc, but I later joined it all together because I got some requests from some people and because I wanted to make it easy on people, so more would join in. Basically anything goes was the motto later on and only 3 people participated.
-To prove it can be done I even created my very own guide.

Now I really do try my hardest to bring life into this community, no one can deny that. But I really do not need such headaches so this will not continue, at least not by me. If anyone else wishes to continue this idea, be my guest, but some people have really let me down...

BTW: Oh look another post that could be long enough to enter the competition  This really is time consuming thing, isnt it.
