I am very excited to announce that very recently (today) I acquired a wonderful little program named fraps (screen recorder), and with the help of the great commentator Yandonman, have succesfully installed and configured so that i am now enabled to do video commentaries of anyone who would like one.
So, if you would like a video record, just give a holler, and we can set one up.
The link to my channel can be found here ~> YouTube - Kanal von TheRay320
[Edit: Is that ^ German?]
And as always if you have any suggestions as to how to improve my commentating, then please let me know, as i am striving to do the best that i can, and i know that there is always room for improvment.
Thanks,
Ray 320

i have a few tips id like to give (i dont do commentating but i do watch lots of the replays, not only fleetops either)
1) please make sure the music is quite low so that we can hear your commentating but the effects volume should be just high enough so we hear the phaser sounds etc but not so high that when we hear a phaser we get distracted. (mal this tip applies to you too, coz some of your replays dont do this very well, just constructive criticism)
2) give the titles of your replays proper names in the form "XX YvY Name1/first letter of name (ZZZ) vs Name1/first letter of name (ZZZ) v/k"
where XX = C/NC (Commentary/No Commentary)
where YvY = 1v1; 2v2; 3v3 etc
where : if 1v1 then Name1/first letter of name = Boggz (example) or in 3v3 Name1/first letter of name = BRM (boggz, ray320, Mal)
where ZZZ are the first letter of the race names eg ZZZ= KBD (klingon, borg, Dominion)
where 'v' is the current replay split in the game and 'k' is the total number of replay splits of the game
3) dont put the mic to close to ur mouth (we wana hear your voice not the air coming out your mouth)
4) try not focus on just one battle in a game as there might be smaller sneak attacks going on that ppl want to see.
5) be objective
6) try get excited bout a game as in "oh no he just lost a sphere, oh but here there he takes revenge by killing two vereran kvorts" that kinda thing. this is quite important as it keeps your replays from feeling dull and really keeps viewers interested and excited bout the game.
7) keep a drink with you so that in lulls in the game you can take a sip, else your throat will go dry and ull start coughing while commentating and we dont want you to die (it gives fleetops a bad name if u die while commentating lol)
8 ) try to upload all the split vids files at once or very close to each other and uploading in order. theres nothing more fustratiing than having to look for the next split in order and having to wait like 4 hours for the next split to come online. also make the next split as a video response to the previous split
thats all i got atm

those silly names formats i find silly, thats why i personally dont use them.
About video responses on youtube, i tried that, and it depends on the normal uploader working, which it does when it wants to lol. U cant set a video as a video response after u upload it as far as i know.

its tmi, i post all replays in the replay thread, where details are given. In the actual youtube title i just give the names and maybe races.
Anyone watching the video already knows what to expect lol.

I prefer Yandon's addition of so-called unnecessary information. Newer players to whom it is most advantageous to view replays find it to be helpful. Additionally, this makes it easy for replays to be shared via teamspeak, linking, IM, etc; I'm not sure why you wouldn't want to have the information assembled in the most convenient and direct place anyway.

Well .. I'm a new player but i agree with myles on the one with the naming... 99% of the time you go to the replays from a thread so u already know who is playing and in the 1% where you dont the commenter introduces everybody in the first few seconds of the vid.
@ray I liked the double feature you did with yandonman.. well the mic was a little issue but you already said that.
What I like is how yandonman is pointing out what he thinks this BO will lead to it helps new players identify strats by glancing at what to 2-3 first buildings are. He's also always checking if upgrades got researched and he points out how does ship will do against what the enemy is fielding and that helps new players to remember counters and you gotta like what you are doing..
.. show your passion for the game.
