Yay thanks for giving us something. I can't wait to see v4 on it's own engine and can finally get rid my Armada 2 disc that I only kept for FO. I do hope that while you may keep the spirit of Armada 2, NX becomes much more than that and becomes the Star Trek game we have always wanted. :)

So much looking forward to this!

this sounds well worth the delay. i thought work on a new engine wouldn't even be started for at least 5 years. even though it will take time, the end product will surely be marvellous.

but now for the most important question, what will the new fleetops be called?
Star Trek: Fleet Operations 4?
Star Trek: Fleet Operations NX 01?
Star Trek: Fleet Operations NX 1.0.0r1v1build0001?
Star Trek: Fleet Operations: The Gritty Reboot That Doesn't Acknowledge the Previous Versions?

This is great news! I'm glad that you guys are getting the engine you always wanted to develop fleet ops in. However at this point there is no value in saying that there will be more newsposts, or that you'll be listening for our ideas. We understand that it's a long development process and we don't mind waiting a long time whether you try to get us involved or not, so either do it or don't. :P

This is really cool!

I wonder though If we can talk about a realistic timeline. Is this something we may see within two or three years? How "done" was version four? Is it something that you guys could release as is, that the community could perhaps mess with to make some form of a playable intermediate game? Tryptic has recently been doing some modding and testing of the current version with some of the community members, and perhaps 4.0 could be somewhat modded to be played, or some of the ships from 4.0 like the calypso?

When he started to mod a few weeks ago we got a nice little group going again, playing some games and doing some recordings, im just wondering if parts of 4.0 could be salvaged by the community to help maintain interest, show off what you guys were working on, maybe test some the ideas you had, etc?

Hopefully I won't be told off but honestly, but thought 4.0 had come miles in development, due to the OOS it wouldn't be good for the community, well that is the main reason but there are many others.

Congratulations are in order! I am delighted to hear about this development. I hope this turns into everything you've wanted and worked for this very long time.

This is fantastic news! And looking on the ezEngine site, it supports both OS X and Linux. No more rebooting into Windows to play!

By the sound of it, they already got very far on v4... most of that should still be usable with the new engine... just ported over to it. So considering how far they might actually be with v4 I don't see it taking that long.

This is a great announcement, although a little bittersweet. One of the reasons I'd been looking forward to v4 is for The Undying Nephalim's Sigma mod, which he had previously indicated was being delayed for the features it would bring.

Good luck with the development of NX.
