Actually, I was talking about pulse phasers in that one. Referring to the Phalanx. It does have a phaser array, right?

New news! This ship looks awesome. However, with the fact that the Calypso uses halo emitters, does that mean that there's no chance of the Incursion getting in now? I know it'd only be a map object regardless, but it seems that the Calypso stole a little bit of its thunder.

The Calypso uses Holographic tek as a Defensive ability. Granting Immense Projectile Avoidance, while also passing the effect to other longs range ships (Cover fire anyone? better implementation tho).. While the original incursion used the Holographic tek to diguise itself. I figure those are far enough apart that it won't matter if and when the devs implement the Incursion.

Now this is very interesting: the feds have always had good variety in their tanking ships, but the new profile system allows this to be implemented a lot better. So right now the feds have a ship that works with their own long range ships and one that works against the enemy's long range, making them the masters of long vs long combat. I like it, although I'm scared to see them get a defensive ship for every situation. Unless the other races get equally awesome stuff, that is :D

I predict that the Nova will be used a lot less in the future.

The next version is not just a change here and there, its a complete redo of Fleet Operations. Many abilities and vessel characteristics changed. While the Nova still comes with a special ability - Fleet Management - that is similar to what she has at the moment, it works a bit differently. It allows all vessels to fire some torpedoes. That compensates for the fact that all Federation ships have some torpedo launchers in canon, but in times of war, not all of them are armed sufficiently (especially in the FO timeline, were the economy is sparse). This allows us an interesting gameplay feature and allows the saber to fire a torpedo or two ingame, while we cant afford to equip her with a regular launcher due to balancing. We always try to bring canon and gameplay together in some way :)

Looks nice. Thank you Zeich and all the staff for the hard work. The saucer looks similar to that of a Norway, but off course the nacelle configuration and design is completely different. The Calypso definitively has its own look and will be a welcome addition to my fleet.

that probably fits a bit more, now the nova works with all fleet compositions, rather than working best in a fleet of torp spammers.

one question: what effect will the nova have on ships that already have torps, will it cause them to fire more as currently?

yep, exactly. The idea is that the Nova works as a transport for warheads. Allowing vessels to use their launchers more actively without the fear to run out of torpedoes or to use their launchers at all.

So is adding a temporary torpedo launcher to any ship the only difference with the new ability or is there something else as well?

So no Blue Balls of Awesome? Ah well. The Sabers it'll be covering still get them, right?

Well, from the perspective of anyone else, the Feds are probably plenty of scary as it is anyway.
Pacifists don't tend to stay that way for long if they aren't.

There are other differences which deal with how Fleet Management meshes with other Federation units - but the Nova's special in general is supposed to be less micro intensive than, say, the Steamrunner's sniping Distortion Device :).

We'll discuss these effects in later newsposts :)

"You are victorious!" - each Calypso on the field shows holographic federation insignia (or a portrait of the chosen avatar)

The design is very cool, in a similar way the Okinawa looks really great in its context, the Calypso looks like a tactical science-vessel. Great job :)

The Defiant should get a passive beam-dampening tractor-beam (instead of critical shot) that has a chance to trigger on an attacking vessel with beam-type weapons (Defiant was considered overpowered and overarmed on the show, on FO it's considered overpassived) :D

Gave me this great idea for an ability. But sadly, it'd probably be more of a Klingon thing. In fact, I believe Klingons already have it. Or maybe that was A1...
