Of course, I expect I'll spend at least a week learning to not use pulses against Kbeajq and Monsoons. If I'm unlucky, it'll be more like a month

If I know Dom, he'll have a quick match-up on the guide (at the very least for the beginning vessels) the day of the patch, so that you can look over it or print it out.

Yup, Mal does a very nice job of explaining the ideas behind these systems and examples.
As he stated, indeed the guide will have build orders and strategies written up and released on the day of the patch
. In order to balance and get all testers at the same level, it's necessary to keep track of build orders, tactics, etc, so these things get prepared in advance of patch release

Apologies if this is a bit off topic but may I ask if the icon images used here are actually in the game? Only they look extremely high quality.
If these are going to be the icons representing the abilities the production values on this re-do have really gone up. Kudos to whoever is leading the art design on this. FO has always impressed me in it's noticeable improvements over the stock aesthetic but this is really taking up a level. I can't wait to see the next iteration of the game once the update is complete.

well, thats both good and bad i suppose, good that it won't take an eternity to have it updated, and bad in that we won't really be able to figure out the efficient strats on our own anymore :-(

Well... you don't have to read the guide.
I won't be reading it probably for at least 1 week-month after it comes out.
At least the strategy part. I will read up on the database that gives individual ship stats and such to know whats what now.
To just figure things out on your own... don't read the guide day of. Play some games.

For two or so years now the guide has been updated prior or within the first few days of patch release - nothing has changed there

I think you'll be more than able to practice with your own strats once the patch is released. I think Dom just meant that the testers are given the most basic and efficient routes to beginning with certain vessels. I'm sure plenty more strats and build orders will surface as people play the patch changes for themselves

Yep we will try to get another newspost done. sadly we have a lot of development ahead at the moment which consumes a lot of time
