For now this is my personal mod, but I have been making good progress of late and if I get some help with the missing textures I need it may well become available. Any comments welcome. I will post new pics on this thread every now and again :)

Well, bad news. My laptop had problems so I formatted it after backing up my files. Once reinstalled I found that the SG mod files and all my activision folders had failed to backup. I sent the HDD away to dta recovery but was told it would cost £400 for thorough scan to see if can restore them. So all the primery and backups have been lost. It will be a while before I start any SG stuff again. I am gonna pick up my Galactica work soon though.

you can scan formated disc home, for free (you need pc with operating system and recovery program and space to store recovered data), i cant remember name of the recovery program, but look on net, if i remember i write here inmediately...

just do not use that drive , data which was not overwriten by something else are still there !

still cant remember name, but i looked and found few...

7-Data Recovery Suite Free Edition 2.2

RS File Recovery 3.4

Stellar Phoenix Photo Recovery 5

important :

1. Do not store any new data on this drive to avoid the original data overwritten by new data, which can make it gone forever.
2. Do not save the recovered data on the same drive, which can cause recovery failure.
3. Do not forget to back up your important data before you do any change to it in the future.

I will ask around for some advice. I think if you run home data recovery then u need to run the program from a separate partition from what you want to recover. Problem is the HDD in question only has 1 partition so I would need a cable to connect a internal HDD externally via usb to my new laptop.

yes use diferent pc with diferent hdd* , that is best course of action.
with your formated drive just conected for scan and recovery, any saved data you put to primary hdd* in laptop. after you recover everythink what is posible , you may disconect previusly formated hdd and use it as you see fit..., as you sad your recovered data will be in your laptop. and you can transfer them whereever you want.

if that formated hdd (fhdd) is in other laptop, you need to take it out, and use somethink like docking station to conect the fhdd to new laptop.

well done for not reading the thread at all where he clearly stated he lost all his work on a hard drive failure

Just to clarify, the HDD did NOT fail. The motherboard did, but I thought it was windows becoming unstable so I went for a reinstall. It seems that the Activision folders did not backup though hence when I formatted and went to reinstall them they were gone. I will look into connecting the hdd so I can run a scan on it here at home but I would assume that if the files could have been recovered then the data recovery place would have found them (they ran a free scan to see if the files I wanted were there and since they wernt ther was no fee but if I wanted a more detailed scan it would cost a lot).

Ok, Some good news. I have managed to recover the SOD and TGA files for my units. The ODFs where a write off though, along with the AI files, Tech trees and any other txt files :(

I will soon start working to rebuild but it may take some time. At least the models are safe now :)
