Borg Faction Redo Ideas

Actually there was a pretty cool idea for it a while back.
Every ship killed by the Borg player would fill up a "resource" type thing or counter of some sort. As that counter increased you could purchase special adaptive type abilities . This would simulate the concept of fighting over time allowing you to adapt in a manner that you saw fit.
It's not exactly how the canon Borg did it .... but then again ... the canon Borg were SUPPOSED to be the end-all villians of power and difficulty.

I don't think the canon Borg had an experience system, adaption to enemy weapons probably was their experience.

I think the Borg should have assimilated those vessels at Wolf-359 instead of destroying them. By the way, how is it that there were assimilated drones from that battle in the Delta-Quadrant when it seems that there was only one Borg survivor of that battle from when the cube was Destroyed? If I remember correctly, weren't there only a handful of survivors period? And didn't the Borg try to destroy everything instead of assimilating everything?

The battle survivors has several theories:
Both are supported by canon. The first by the FC Sphere and Voyager showing several ships being used to assimilate, the second by the fact that we didn't see all the dead ships and Enterprise doing that with a constantly upgraded ship.
- Second ship that didn't fight, which left after the battle
- Borg assimilated several ships and sent them back to the DQ after the fight

hive mind, the borg dont have individual minds which can learn, if 1 drone learns something useful, the whole collective is informed immediately.
so if a cube was in combat and learned some clever piece of knowledge, they wouldnt keep it to themselves.

acksully i think im the biggest borg fan here, iv posted many ideas for the borg here hehehehe
i always root for the borg in yandonmans commented replays
i must agree tho that i do find the borg a bit boring to play.
when i watch an episode of star trek with borg, i get this 'feeling' of the borg that the borg is evil, menacing, out to get you and rape you yet still elusive and mysterious; a bio-mechanical freak of nature that somehow was created and how as a human u feel a sense of dread and doom at the very sight of a of a single drone. and i think this 'feeling' is really the attraction that everyone feels toward the borg. and i dont think fleet ops has really captured this feeling yet and i hope the borg redo will capture this 'feeling'
this 'feeling' that i want captured in fleetops, doesnt mean i want the borg to be overpowered, im all for a balanced game. but i do want my opponent to shit himself/herself from a sense of fear playing against borg. (if u all know what im trying to get at here).
one other thing, i hope in the borg redo that the borg really get some extra resistance to torps, coz i see it time and time again in games where as soon as someone has like 20 excel II's or 20 sangs, then the borg ships start to drop like flies, i mean with 20 excel II's and a bit of other ships to support the excels one could take out a tactical cube in no time with very acceptable losses to his excel II's and thats just not right to me.

in fact i find the borg a bit underpowered. in most of the games i watch (borg games) i rarely see the borg win

Which race wins depends more on the player than the race itself. They have one of the more unique styles and would still be less likely to win even if stronger because it can be difficult to play them properly.

ur right about that Tyler in some respects, but i have also seen some players who i think are experienced borg players, lose and rarely win when playing borg.
but that also brings to light that someone thats somewhat new to fleetops really has alot of work and reading to do to know what ships counter what etc which means that always the more experienced players that know all the the counters etc will just about always win, which i think isnt quite a good thing. unless fleetops online play gets a ladder matching system *hint* *hint*

We discussed having a ladder before. In general people were against the idea. FleetOps is meant to be fun, not all competitive like StarCraft.
What has been discussed is adding difficulty sliders for players/teams like exist for the AI allowing two mismatched players to have more interesting and longer games.
