I had a thought about doing my borg somewhat different than most. Rather than building Borg ships..you start with a nexus that can evolve into a mini unicomplex....however rather than building stations that assemble ships...the nexus can warp/transwarp in Borg Cubes and spheres etc. so you have to build certain communication nodes...each node will be able to bring in a different set of Borg ships..some for destruction..some for assimilation..and you can mix them up in a fleet...I can make this work for the player...but will the AI use the warp in feature when i play against it? and also can you have multiple requirements for the same techtree? say i want to warp in an assimilation cube..it needs 5 assimilation nodes...each the same name...like for example in the techtree
borgcubeassim.odf 4 assimnode.odf assimnode.odf assimnode.odf assimnode.odf...that way i just build the same node 4 times and the Cube becomes available for warp in...

good question! Though I don't know for sure, There is no reason it couldn't. With the addition of the new replacementinstantai line, the AI can use all sorts of weapons now, as well as replaceweapons like warpin. There might be some reason it can't but as far as I know, it should be able to
Oh, but if you are talking about modular additions...the AI has problems with that...

No...not modular stations...simple replaceweapons.....so the the AI would build the warpin node...and that would signal the collective to send a small (3) fleet of ships...a cube escorted by 2 spheres..or three spheres...but each one will call a potentially different group...for assimilation, destruction etc...

Yeah, aslong as the node isn't built off a station, and it is its own, station, than it should work

Excellent...now i just have to figure out how to code the AIP for it to fire the replaceweapon...ill have to look and see how the AIPs for FO are set up...

The AIP does not fire the replace weapon. look in some of the weapon odfs, there is a line like
replaceinstantai = 1
or something like that. That line insures that the AI will automatically use that line.

so as soon as it builds the node that has the replaceweapon on it...it will automatically fire? okay...that works for me...that means that ill just scrap the multiple node requirement idea and go with multiple research before the node can be built...and then once the node is built the AI will fire the replace weapon..and here come the Borg! that is, again if the AI does use warpin. In theory it should, but i would wait for the devs response first. before you write all those odfs

Yea true...i mean it doesn't bother me to write the odfs but you're right...i don't want it to just be something that only the player uses and thats it...

The AI does use the replace weapon for warpins...however how it chooses which one..for example the fed warpin is still a mystery to me between the standard and descent warpin. What I would sugest is to have the AI build a specific node for each type of warpin group you wish to have issued. Between this and the random replaceweapon weighting you should be able to have something that wont seem so mundane.

I never thought of that. How does the AI decide between the Descent and normal warp in? I wonder if it picks it ever other one? I'm off to go watch the AI....do stuff..
