I've always just used good-ol notepad and bocked at the idea of needing something more in spite of seeing some of the really cool options other editors have. That said, I'm short on time and notepad just ain't cutting it any more. So I'm shopping for a new editor, and I'm curious what some of the community favorites are. In particular, I'm wanting a multi-file editor with comapre tools so I can check versions side by side and look for changes made. The other usual features are cool too, but the idea of a multi-file side by side editor is what made me finally abandon notepad. Any suggestions?

I have always just used notepad, but notepad ++ is nice.  There will eventually be some cool editors the devs will release, but for now, notepad is my best friend. ^-^

Notepad++ is lightweight and feature-rich text editor. Should be pretty good general purpose text editor.

Notepad for text editing, Ms3D for modeling, Photoimpact for texturing.

For text files, I use either Notepad or Wordpad. I only use Notepad++ for tooltips.

Oh... Well dang, guess I'll just stick with notepad then.
Nobody knows of a multi-file side by side capable editor?
