Torp/Pulse Base SODs

Hi all, I'm wondering, what would be needed to edit an SOD of a torpedo or pulse sprite in order to accept a new set of sprites (I am trying to make weapons in equal quality by having them SOD based.

Is it just a node defining the sprite, or does it have some more stuff to define different frames?

Basically I'm looking into:
- Torpedo SODs
- Torpedo Hit SODs
- Torpedo Trail SODs
- Pulse SODs
- Pulse Hit SODs
- Beam Hit SODs

I am basically asking if I simply need a hardpoint editor or do I need a modeling program?

If someone thinks they might have then needed stuff to do so, can you speak up?
This is one of the smaller but none the less critical parts of a project. And I just want it out of the way. ^-^

Wouldn't a weapon Sod be changed the same way as a ship Sod?

It would which means that you will have to fire of MS3D in order to make them.
