Station Diversity

Hey guys.

A thought just occurred to me; all the races in FleetOps (especially the Borg) have some diversity in their stations, so I was thinking that what we could do is that you can build 2 or 3 variants of the station class you want.

For example: Starbase--->Armada Series classic Starbase
                              |--->The Starbase we currently use
                              |--->New Starbase

So these variants would all fill the same role, but they might have some specials, like the starbase we are currently using would act more like a storage yard and you could acquire slightly more supplies at a slightly lower cost, or the new starbase could be more of a defense outpost and have 1 or 2 more pulse cannons and better shields.

I like the idea too and I know how to mod lol. Station diversity can have an adverse affect on balance though. actually anything can have an effect on balance. This mod is more about fleets than it is station though so I myself dont think it would hurt to have more variety in stations but at same time I wouldnt want to see station building detract to much from fleet dynamics. I think there is another thread that boggz posted some great ideas about starbases though. In any case I like the idea of more diversity but lets still keep it kinda moderated. I wouldnt want to see 37 dif stations for each race aside from upgraded stuff.

No, but think about it, Starfleet usually doesn't build their Science Centers with the same design.

But I'm talking about slight variations when it comes to weapons or hitpoints, not massive unbalancing like a full-blown Federation Starbase :P (32 Mark XI Phaser banks ftw :D)

Hmmm slight variations.....

Well in regards to science and research centers I think the bases are well covered. Maybe the feds could use another one to seperate and layer out the techtree a lil more but other than that I dont see the benefit of having sligh variations in those types of facilities. However I do think one area that could benefit would be the "mixed tech" area...That would be where I like to see a dif aproach to where we could have variations. I belive that mixed tech is planned for a redo if Im not mistaken.

Also when it comes to weapons and hitpoints for facilities I think for right now the feds are ok. They have enough turrents. Id like though to see klingons get a small sentry post with pulse base weapons but not have it be anywhere near as powerful as their torpedo platform. I also feel like the borg could use something like a "sub-matrix" that could function as a mini outpost. But something Im against is having say 3 types of each turent or upgrade systems for all turents like how starbases are now. I radther see dif types of facilities radther that slight variations I guess is what I should say. If say ur idea is to have for example 2 klingon torp platforms that do the same thing but one has dif stats well I dont see that as much of a benefit unless the costs and stats were vastly dif between the two....so that it be economical for one or the other depending on what stage in the game your at.
