I was wondering if it would be possible to get the shipyard to build extension modules onto itself and at the same time, allow it to build ships. I was asking because of the ODF command "researchedAtYard" in the allied repair ODF file. I figure that if it's possible, I can overcome a few obstacles in my mod. Like a starbase with a transwarp gate and dual repair yards on it.

Do it how the Klingon Yard does it, that's probably the best way to get different types of station together.

Would be cool to have starbases have yards on them.
Prehaps also have most advanced yards have expansion yards too, which build a few low level ships as well as small advanded ships and special weapon ships, plus of course offering expanded repair capacity.

I want to do it differently. So that when you hit the build button, you have the option of building ships, or building an expansion yard. It'll save the number of ODF files that have to be done.

This is not really a request. I'm just wondering if it's possible to do this because of a mod I'm working on. Which I found out isn't really possible (or doesn't seem to be).
I tested the Federation yard by making it possible to build the Klingon extension modules onto it. It didn't work properly. Leaving the classlabel as shipyard, the yard was built, then you could build another one right on top of it. Having the classlabel as pod made the extension module explode when it was done being built.
I was trying to see if I could make an extension module on a shipyard built just like the allied repair is "built." But it didn't work. I'm wondering if there's something I missed that would allow me to build a yard with an extension module without making the yard a "research" station. But so far, all of my attempts have failed.

Yeah, it doesn't seem like it can be done. You basically want to do the same thing the klingon yard does, but with fewer ODFs. How many ODFs does the klingon yard have?

The Klingon yard has 4 ODFs per avatar, I think.

In order for modular stations to work you need a host station that has the research classlabel. The research classlabel currently is the only type of classlabel I know of that can do such a thing. As an example, the Klingon Yard has 4 station parts. The one which is built by the player has the research classlabel, and the three yards that are added to it have the shipyard labels. If you want modular stations the host will always have to be a research classlabel. They might end up changing this in future patches after they work on the AI though.

Maybe each race should have an avatar that specialises in modular stations?
Perhaps even modular ships if that is possible? replacementweapon command for that I guess and in different directions like Borg ships are built.

Just a question - isn't this what the old Klingon yard did?
I seem to remember having a central facility able to build before adding the wings; I only noticed the change in the latest patch...

ive actually been requesting something like this for a while (where stations can research / build modules, build and possibly even evolve all from the same module but i dnt think the devs will do it best bet is to wait and see if there will be a replace weapon that includes build time
