I tried to make it so that the holding beam drains the shields of enemy vessels.  But the holding beam currently cannot be modified to drain the shields.  What can I use to activate a weapon that will drain the shields as long as the holding beam is active?  How do I get this weapon to activate only if the holding beam is active and only on the target that the holding beam has locked onto?

The crew assimilator should be somewhat less of a challenge.  The crew assimilator cannot be modified to give collective connections.  What can I use to activate a weapon that will give collective connections as long as the crew assimilator is active?  And how do I get this weapon to activate only if the crew assimilator is active?
