research pod sod question

the sod for research pods is blank right? so would it be possible to put some engines on it , define a physics file and use it to move a squad of fighters around independant of a ship or station?

I don't think so. Pods are bound in place to their parent station. If the station moves, the pod will move with it. I'm also not sure that you can even select something with a blank sod. A better way to have an independent squad would be to make a ship that just looks like a squadron of fighters. It would be a bit awkward, though. The fighters would always stay in rigid formation and you couldn't have just one die at a time or have the squad slowly be whittled down; it would be all of them or none of them.

Yeah, there is a mod where you can do tat with defiants, but as Cabal says they are quite rigid.

What you could do is have a squad leader, or an invisible placement marker, and have it spawn AI controled fighters as child fighters. They would stay, relatively near the leader. The only problem is what happens when it is destroyed or when all it's fighters are destroyed.
