Hello there,

So, I decided to redo the way fighters are handled in KA2, and to go to the tried and true FleetOps method. So far so good, all works lovely, my Ark Royal Class spawns Hornet Fighters no trouble.

Teeny problem arises in the following two scenarios.

If a player gets a certain prerequisite tech, then they get access to more advanced fighters. Obviously I want my carriers to spawn these new fighters not the old one. What I am assuming I need is a replaceweapon that replaces the carrier with an identical one (except one with a different hangar weapon) automatically when that tech is researched. Is this doable?

Secondly, in a similar vein, i'd like Outposts to spawn fighters, but only once a carrier is built. Again would I need a replace weapon to swap out the Outpost with a new one (with a fighter hangar weapon) that fires automatically once a carrier is operational? Is that doable?

Automatic replace weapons ignore tech requirements so if you want to upgrade the fighters you will need a non-automatic replace weapon and do it manually. Same thing with outposts only getting fighters after you build a carrier.

You can use the commands at the bottom of the page here to automatically replace the old carrier with the new one in the shipyard and the old outpost with the new one in the construction ship's build list, though. Existing ones would need to be upgraded but new ones would already have that taken care of.

A few more queries if I may.

Is it possible to get the spawned fighters to spawn at a specific hardpoint rather than the root? Some of the carriers have visible hangar bays, and it would be nice to see the fighters launch from them.

Secondly, regarding replacing ships in the shipyard, I can understand how I can hide the second carrier (the one that spawns new fighters) until the tech is revealed, but how do I hide the "old one" ?

Thanks

Not quite, but this line allows you to do offset it from root along the X, Y, and Z coordinates.
