Does the originalclass code prevent the ship from duplicating names already used on any ship with the code?

I'm not sure.  But I know that if a repeat does occur, the program will add a letter to the end of a name.  Eg:

USS Ohio
USS Ohio-A
USS Ohio-B...

To help prevent repeats, add more names to the list.

I think he means that no two ships within differing parts of the game have the same name.

Actually, no.  what it does is allow you to select the ships of the same class by double-clicking the ship and have the game select all ships no matter what rank they are.

I"m pretty sure anyway. :sweatdrop:

As far as I know that's correct - originally I wasn't certain if Tyler was asking whether this class can also achieve the other aim.

I was asking if it affected names, too. I remember a dev mentioning it affects selection before.

it doesn't.  I intentionally did it to my ships in my game, and it does not prevent it. I think it helps keep its name, but will not prevent other ships from having the same name.

Let's say I have a Constitution and a Constitution Refit starship and both ODFs has the name USS Constellation. If I refit my USS Constellation from stock to Refit, that means that I still may build an USS Constellation, Constitution Class Refit without -A suffix?

I'm not sure I understand the question.  If you have two ships of the same odf, with the same name, one will be -A.  If you refit your non-refit to a refit, but the original refit has the same name as the non refit, the new refit will have the -A suffix.

My was about 'originalclass', not the odfs. About if the code causes them to share the names as if all using that code were the same ship, just like it causes the AdmiralsLog to count all rankups to count as 1 ship.

As in; if I rankup a Rhienn, will another base Rhienn be built with the name if the veteran is still around?

I don't think so since the refit process has the ship keep its name from the start.  basically it gets its name from the same original pool, so it is like the ship is considered to be from the same odf.  so if another ship was built with the same name, it would have the -A thing at the end.

The refit process has the ship keep its name only if you use replacementkeepName though I believe.

yeah, but it usually does.  I am pretty sure it is hardcoded for leveling up also.
