I am having one hell of a time with something.

Recently i'd decided to add in TOS Federation, TOS Klingons, and TOS Romulans as 3 new factions. I've very experienced with adding new factions. The Federation and Romulans work with no issue. The Klingons however present a new problem. The avatar shows up, my pushbuild constructors build...but i cannot build ANY building. It builds completely and as the worker bees are about to return and construction completes...game crash.

Initially i thought this was a simple ODF error or a weapon ODF issue. Nope. I've completely redone the ODFs with the same error. As i have "buildablebyownerraceonly = 0"...I put the Klingon shipyard to be constructed by my TOS Federation constructor. It didn't even show up as an option to build. Why would each building crash upon construction...i swear there are no ODF errors. This is driving me crazy.

The TOS Klingons occupy the 11th instant action slot...does FO not support more than 10? could that be a problem?

Are you sure you checked for every possible odf error, even the small things like a missing or misplaced "?

The instant action slot shouldn't be a problem, the limit should be much higher than that. Besides, you'd probably not even get the game started if that was the problem...

Here's what I do when I'm trying to differentiate between race and unit odf issue:

1) Change the race in the unit odf files to another race and place them using the map editor to see if it still crashes.  I'd focus on placing stuff in the editor so you can go through the units one by one and see if any do work - kind of tedious trying to troubleshoot by building in game.

2) Move the races around in the races.odf file and see if making your TOS Klingons an earlier number changes anything.  Recheck the races.odf and Klingon file to make sure the numbers match.

3) If the problem is with any of the actual race stuff (as opposed to there being too many), renaming your Klingon race file to another race should cause the other race to crash.  Or rename a working race to the Klingon side and see if it works.

I had a ton of problems in stock A2 after trying to make a Babylon 5 install work with both B5 and ST stuff - every 8472 unit crashed the game.  As soon as I made 8472 the first race in the file, they played fine and the last race started crashing...  Then again, that mod now has 14 playable races (0-13) - nothing over that number ever worked..

Tyler is right, exceeding the race limit doesn't produce that kind of error AFAIK. I'd bet it's an odf fault. I have no experience with the FO odf structure, though, so I'm not particularly helpful if the fault should hide there. I'd check includes (and I mean every referenced odf, that includes physics and weapons), hardpoints and the tooltips (in stock A2 this would crash differently, but as I said, FO may do it different). The problem is A2's hierarchical ODF structure - while being a good idea from a software-technical point of view, this also means that locating a fault is a lot of work. These are the usual suspects in the case you described.

OK...update.

I am able to build the TOS_Klingon stations when i put them into my TOS_Federation constructor. SAME EXACT ODF FILE....just build with the other constructor. But if it is built with my TOS_Klingon constructor, it crashes. With the TOS_Klingon constructor, it builds to 100% and immediately crashes.

Because the same odf build with other constructor...this makes me think it has to be a issue with the constructor.

Do you get a bug report? I might be able to help, or at least point you in the right direction if you could provide it.

Can you post copies of both the construction ship ODFs please?

Well, i did finally fix it with a new faction.odf file. Seems something was amiss in my KlingonTOS.odf file.

However, when i made AI files for my TOS federation, it builds and gives me a good fight. The Klingon AI however won't even launch its pushbuild constructors. Its like it doesn't even select the avatar. You can't select the klingon starbase and it won't fire...i must be missing something here.

The AI cannot select an avatar  . Try looking at the other AI files in Fleet Ops :)
