For one of my models, I've run into a problem.  I'm trying to model something like a Galaxy class starship, but with 2 saucer sections and 2 attachment points between the saucers instead of one.  But I'm not sure how to proceed.  How did you model the Galaxy class starship when making fleet-ops?

If this was a race car that I'm modeling, I'd create the basic shape of the car, then add more detail to the car later.  Could that work with starships as well?

Im not really sure what you are asking but you could mirror either side of the ship.

If I understand you correctly, you would like to make a Galaxy with two saucers. At least this is the general idea, right?
First of all, pick the saucer and the neck section with it and move it into the perfect position on one side of the ship. Now edit the saucer and the neck as you want. In the end duplicate the saucer and the neck and mirror it, so you'll get the second saucer section in place. All you have to do now is to edit the mesh at the connection of the two neck sections to merge them together nicely.
