well the devs are german, their work is created by german people in germany, i guess that if you violated their creative rights that you would have to answer to german criminal or civil courts. german copyright law is similar to most western copyright law, i dont think they are either too strict or lenient. the scandinavian countries tend to be more lenient in copyright law. france i think is quite strict.

If they wanted to push it that far i suppose they could but they could also blacklist you on any website that you might try to host it on. doca and optec are German but zeich is from the US.

Well usually its best to not release something if you did not get permission, be it either cause the author denied it, or you could not reach him or her. Some material however got released for free use by the author, you will probably find a note about that in the respective readme.

Yep, almost all Fleet Operations content is created in Germany, except the models made by Zeich. I think he posted all of them on his blog, so that should give you a good repository, but you can also identify material made by him by his logo being present on the texture. If you want to ask for permission for one of his models, feel free to ask him directly, of course. Otherwise, please send the request to me. If none of the team members is the author, I will redirect your request to the proper person, but the great majority of moding-relevant material should have been created by me either way.

German copyright is even more strict. Everything is copyrited the moment it was created and there is no copyright-less material. There is also no term of "fair use" over here. Till now we always found solutions that all sides were happy with upon receiving permission requests. Please just be so kind and ask first.

All Fleet Operations content is free to use for personal purpose, of course, as long as you don't release it

I have a question.  I have modified the federation UI to make it more generic, and I am using it in my mod.  additionally, captian proton wants to use it, so I figured i would release it here in the mods section.  I just wanted to know if its allowed. :on2long:  I mean to edit the GUI, and then release it here. :sweatdrop:

Actually what I was told at Armada2Files is that if you can't get permission from a modder that has released a mod and all your attempts to contact them fail, this includes any e-mail that gets bounced back, or the modder is no longer a part of the modding community (has stopped modding Armada I or Armada II) then they have automatically given their consent for their work to be released all you have to do is give them credit still and that also goes for those who have already pre-given permission to release their mods in their Read Me files. This information if I remember correctly came from FahreS, but it also could have come from Freyr. Of course that is the policy at Armada2Files and I would believe that it would depend on what sites are hosting your mods and their policy on the matter that you should follow. I think that I read in the forums at Armada Fleet Command's website that they have the same policy as at Armada2Files.

If that is A2Files policy then that is their policy.  Here you are on the FO site and their policy may differ.  The main thing is, respect other people's wishes with regards to content they have created.

True I know that. The thing to question is that some people only release their mods on Aramda2Files. I ahven't actually found any mods here yet except Fleet Ops downloads for the different versions. So what are we supposed to do if the mods going to be submitted to Armada2Files or even Armada Fleet Command?

Well, the safest bet is work with the most restrictive policy and then see what can be done to work within it.  This way you can avoid upsetting anyone.

If you cant reach the author, then thats bad luck for you, not for the author. A permission has to be granted and does not "automatically" pop up out of thin air. I'm quite sure Major A Payne and Freyr would second this position. The authors in question probably gave permission to release use their work somewhere in the past

I don't remember if that was the case becuse it was on the Armada2Files Forums, but I do remember a few things that permission is giving in some Read Me's automatically, some is given by e-mail, and the last thing in the forum is that if someone that created the mod can't be contacted and they have also left the Armada II Community then with the fact that they've left Freyr and Fahres has said permission has thus been already given and that is how you can proceed.

I believe I found the same thing on ArmadaFleetCommands Forums about posting mods too.
