Hello there,

In light of the increasingly nifty code changes that FleetOps hath and Armada2 hath not, I decided to once again try and convert KA2 EAW to work on FleetOps as a Mod. Well, I was quite surprised:- It worked.

However, it is not without problems. Problems I am hoping that seasoned FleetOps modders might have the answer to. They do not affect the original A2 version, so I can only assume its some compatibility wobbles with FleetOps.

Firstly, as players of KA2 know, I recoloured most of the menus from grey to red. Most work fine, however some show the original grey.

In instant action, the area where the team colours are supposed to be is grey, and the map selection menu is corrupted. Usable, but clearly something is wrong.

In game, everything seems to work graphically and gameplay wise, the major problem is sound. Whenever I scroll I get this weird whistling sound, and certain sounds seem to randomly corrupt and play too quickly, too slowly, or at very poor quality. There is seemingly no rhyme or reason as to the sounds that corrupt.

What I am going to try, given KA2s extensive alteration of the original A2 files, is to copy the A2 Classic Mod to a new mod folder, then overwrite the relevant parts with my own mod, and run it as a standalone, as I think these issues might stem from the interaction of the Classic Mod and KA2 (remember that my mod doesn't really like to work with the original A2 either; it works fine when ran as it's own standalone install. So, something is interacting badly in there).

Otherwise, Bravo Gentlemen! The exact same files in the new engine and the difference is already startling. Ships just seem to move better, weapons fire smoother. And thats before I even add any of the new code you guys have worked on. Well done!

Right! Thought i'd post to say i've solve those problems, and hit another. BUT I know what it is now. It's the same thing that causes problems with stock A2; the _1 and _2 files. Easily solved really. I would like to eventually get KA2 working as a standalone mod (that is to say, not needing the Classic mod loading first) but we'll see.

For those who might encounter the same headaches...

The issue with the menus is caused by the fact that FleetOps adds new menus, and that the Classic Mod uses PNGs not BMPs. Ergo, some are not replaced properly.

The issue with teamcolours is that the original A2 uses blue, red, white etc, The Classic Mod uses MP01, MP02, MP03 as the names of the colours.

The issue with the sound is due to settings in the audio.odf file. Mine was edited and caused trouble. Replacing it with the one from the Classic mod fixed the problems.

Aye, just converting all the required BMPs to PNGs. Fortunately I have Photoshop's batch mode to help me :)

I solved my crash with the _1 and _2 files quite niftily. I copied the STA2 Classic Mod, renamed it to "CutDown" and then deleted the textures folder. Told my mod it needed CutDown rather than STA2 Classic and bingo, works with no crashes.
