OK while I'm taking a break on the Armada 2 mod for FleetOps I've decided to take a look into some concept ideas I've had. To start with here is my concept for improved assimilation.

Federation Sovereign Class gets assimilated.

Borg use the 'Complete Assimilation' special weapon to complete the assimilation process.

Federation recaptures the fully assimilated Sovereign Class.

Federation use the 'Complete Restore' special weapon to remove any remaining Borg Technology.

This concept could be used to allow the assimilated ships to have Borg weaponry and special weapons instead of those belonging to the ships original race (if the auto replace weapon can be delayed with technology then in fleet ops this method could be used to make assimilated ship to act like Borg vessels such as the ability to recrew).

Further Concepts include:
  • Balancing Warp
  • New Refit System

depends it is possbile to have a delay time from the point of assimilation to the point of full assimilation but it would require 2 more odfs for each ship

Very nice... I recommended a 'complete assimilation' style thing in one of my first posts so I like it :)
I assume the complete assimilated vessel uses a new SOD and/or Textures to remain looking Borgified after being re-captured?
Will you be working on this to add a complete assimilation to all ships? or just stopping at concept?

yh new sod and uses the orig borg texture as its base texture but i'm just stopping at the concept but if this inspires others to want to do it then kool

OMG, Doc, Optec....I think Blade just stumbled upon something!  Captured/assimilated vessels by the Borg should slowly reskin to this when they rank up.  Or better yet, use a feature like recycle (I think that's what its called) and it lasts 30 seconds and slowly installs Borg modules on the ship....perhaps increasing defense and removing shield modules, etc.  Now that I think about it, is there a way to hide assimilated ships special features that cannot be used?

in therory i wud like the replace weapons to be auto used when assimulated (and the in reverse) as it wud become seamless then

ok next concept is balancing warp

Ok i know that warp drive is not planned for fleetops but as people keep asking for it i have decided to give an idea on how to balance the warp ability.

first thing first is how to stop warp being used constantly

second thing is how to make it a disadvantage to use warp

and third and final point is what are the benefits of using warp

and now the concept:

first give each warp capable a special weapon (using replace weapon) to enable warp engines
this could use resources and or special energy.

next in order to get the ship to travel at warp speed you will need to select a location on the mini map (also i think sending it into combat also works). Now here is another limitation and thats an auto replace weapon that activates after X amount of time which will cause the ship to drop out of warp and have no special energy.

Note while warp engines are enabled ships weapons are deactivated and repair time is slowed down. I would also like the shields to be disabled but that seams to cause some problems when coming out of warp.

I hope this shows how warp can be balanced a bit

This is a surprisingly simple but very well done idea. It certainly would save having to do Borg 3D textures on every ship and instead the modelers could simply make the models with Borg geometry... which means more detail in my book.

I like these ideas. I never understood why Activision decided to use textures rather than geometry for assimilation in A2. I liked seeing Borg nodes on assimilated ships in A1 rather than just turning the ship green. For the warp drive, maybe it would be a good idea to have the engines take a couple seconds to charge up, during which time the ship would be vulnerable.
