Hello there,
I have been considering adding Mixed Tech style features to KA2, but before I embark beyond the planning stage, I need to know what is possible and not possible using Mixed Tech. I know you can enable otherwise unavailable units and stations, but can you also use it to enable special weapons (for example cloaking)

Yes you can. You can enable any number of special abilities through mixed-tech. The number one obstacle you're likely to run into is the fact that in V3 the tech tree cannot accept "OR" statements, and there are two separate conditions under which Mixed tech can be obtained: either having an ally of that race, or capturing a constructor.
For example, the game is coded so that there are two separate Mixed-tech yards: one for having that race as an ally and another that is built by their captured constructor. They are identical, and can both research Alien Tech and build the same ships.
If you wanted to enable cloaking on certain ships through mixed tech, you would either have to code two separate versions of the cloak on each ship, or have it require a research pod that is researchable through two separate buildings.

Ah okay. I hadn't planned to use any OR type statements. I was going to have some units/abilities granted via alliance and some granted via capture (basically, if two sides are story line speaking, allies, then their unit or ability will be granted via alliance, elsewise, capture of a construction ship).
I've worked out abilities, stations or ships for every combination of each of the 8 sides. Going to be interesting testing them all!
