Idea for a re-balance mod

Ok as we know, megadroids scripting is going to open up a HUGE avenue for some really awsome stuff.

Speceficly....... RPG (CO-OP compatable prehaps) map

So yeah, if we could get a RPG style mission map, that'd be quite fun for SP (possibly even a MMO style MP map, if some ambitious coders get ahold of it ..... ).

So, that brings out the idea for a re-balance mod of fleetops.

Basicly, a mod to make things less 'balanced' and fit more in with trek TV/movies and to an extent the better of the books and prehaps some of the better done fan conjecture.

Basicly, the whole idea of this would be to establish loadouts and weapon strengths of ships, and apply them in a manner designed to fit trek without regard for MP balance, of course those wishing to do co-operative based RP and what not would also find this of use without even having the mission scripting of use, this re-balance would focus less on fleet battles, and more on one on one ship fights.

Heres how I see it being done-

Torpedoes and ammunition based weaponry: Establish what type of torpedo a ship uses, and from there give each torpedo a base value, chance to hit, and other stats. For balance, the main differnce between ships will be the torpedo class, and launcher type(s) on each ship. Smaller ships will have a lower rate of fire and/or fire fewer or just one torpedo per salvo, bigger ships will have a mix of a faster rate of fire, more shots per salvo and the like.

Phasers disruptors and other energy weapons: Will be based mostly on the type of weapon, with a set of weapon models established for each race. Basicly, the bigger the ship, either the more energy weapons or more damage per energy weapon, with larger ships largley doing more damage per second with their energy weapons.

Universal 'weapons': Basicly, a group of special weapons that get used by all ships, mostly for player control. An 'evasive' command that greatly decreases the odds of hitting a ship, for lower chance to hit with its own weapons, being one such example, another being a re-use of the borg repair command, allowing ships to be orderd to power down and let loose damage control teams.


So........ anyone think that, in principle at least, this sounds like it'd be fun to work on ? Im going to do it as a personal mod regardless, however Im still pretty new to messing with fleet ops, had different versions of it for ages, but never really modded it much, and having a few people working with me owuld be helpful. This will mostly be a .odf mod, as the core parts of the mod are fine allready.

A co-op style game would be awesome, but technically, we already have that in FO.  Actually, its been in there since stock.  its called the 'Armada' feature and lets multiple players control a set of units.

True, you could even do it simply by condition greening everything and RPing out encounters before attacking.

However, if a mission type map were to be coded for this specifically, it'd be quite interesting, especially if a re-balance for cannon were to be done.

I don't think A2 RP'ing is popular enough for a mission map specifically for it to be made.

The map itself, minus the coding, I could make easily enough really.

To be honest you mostly just need an assymetric map with territory for differnt factions and stellar terrain to utilize as well.

The real work will simply be coming up with differnt scenarios and implementing them via the megadroid script (once he releases it for this).

Plus, coming up with such stuff is always better if done as a community effort :p .

As for the interest....... if it were possible to combine the best of A2 gameplay with the best of SFC gameplay, it could be quite intersting and fun .

Bumping this. Anyone intersted in working on modding the Fleetops Feds to be more in line with canon for this ? Basicly, mostly just rebalancing some
