How AI builds turrets?

I took a close look and it seems to me that AI doesn't use the replaceweapon when it build Federation turrets, but builds them right from the construction ship. Does it mean that AI can't use replaceweapon, as a possibility to upgrade stations or this is only a feature to help AI?

the AI may use the replace weapon, but it wont recognize it as a buildlist producer. we do not put much development into the buildlist, as we are working on getting them removed either way. A static list does not match the requirements we need for Fleet Operations. Therefore, as long as we still have it, the AI will build the turrets directly, as we want it to replace lost turrets. ^-^

But does it mean that AI will use it, if it's possible? For example if AI paid the moeny for researching the upgrades for the Generix Class, then will it be able to refit the existing ships to enjoy the benefits of the research?

The fact that tghe AI builds Turrets and Refits directly, while using the Collective Uplink as a regular Shipyard hints at certain limits.

He's asking because he's wanting to know for his mod, Tyler.  He has ships that will require refits if they want to stay competitive in the next timeline for his game.

K_merse, you'll probably have to do like the FO team does and once you "research" excelsior upgrades, then the AI can build the upgraded excelsior variant from the yards.  The older models will just become cannon fodder, but since your AI will probably have to cheat just like this one does, it will be able to pump out enough ships for it not to matter.  You'll still see refits from that. ^-^

Massive cost/time reduction, techtree not needed for refits... what's next? Transporting into your base?

we dont use that option :) the AI actually directly builds the turrets, but with proper techtree requirements. I just mentioned the method :)

We thought about mass transporters, but at the moment we are working on a galaxy platform for the ai. a long-range defense platform that shoots Galaxy Class vessels  :sweatdrop:
