Hardpoint locations: How to figure them out exactly?

Because I was asked to release a ship (I already sent an e-mail in order to request permission), I had some thoughts for the purpose I want to give it. I don't know the exact hardpoint locations and want to know where they are, so:

Do I necessarily need to use a modeling program or is there another way? And for both cases, which free programs would you recommend for that special purpose?

Thanks for any help in advance.  ^-^

Moddeling programs are easiest, but there is a somwhat longer way. In stock, I remove all weapons and leave 1 with 1 beam phaser hardpoint, then go into map editor and see where it fires from, then leave and increase the hp by 1 and repeat until the hp's end.

Annoying, but more reliable than some programs (I use a prgram that allows HP viewing, but it doesn't always work properly). It is also quite free.

What do you mean if telling "quite" free? Do I have to sign up and register the program similar to GMAX?

No cost since all you need is the Map Editor and something to edit odf's.

I'm sorry, I wrongly assumed you meant the program you mentioned.  :pinch:

I would like to know which program you mean, Tyler.^^

All I know is the name, CV. It has no tab with info about it, there is no readme and I can't find a homepage anywhere for it. I downloaded it so long ago, I can't even remember where I got it from.

I think this is the one: http://forums.filefront.com/st-a2-problems-errors-help/415146-looking-cv-tool.html

Thank you very much, Tyler. I'll have a look at it.

A fairly large number of sods work in that program, but some don't. Some ships also have the HP's arranged properly, but moved a bit ahead of where they should be.

The image is what happens to some ships, if you see that, don't save the model or it will look like that in-game. For me, they only show up with Textures if the sod is in the same directory as the Textures.

MOD files for SFC work perfectly every time, though.

so I guess the programs original purpose didn't age well if it gets these problems with parts of newer games or models.

I'll have to take a look myself then, if it doesn't screw the SOD up it will definately help me to test my idea.

I use assimview.  it is quirky and not good for much else but viewing, but it works well for that.  it is available over at AFC
