This is more like Community Opinion Research.
How would the idea appeal to you as a person if there was a version of FO that gave you 4 or 5 races all of which have their time lines from TOS all the way to Post-TNG era? Basically giving you a long stream of variety from 22nd to late 23rd to early 24th century. Most of the designs being canon ones or ones accepted as fitting to the canon timeline.
This would be a sub-version entertaining for even the really-really long games, having hours and hours of variety. And well structured tech tree composition that allows each race to develop uniquely and have unique features for all parts.
If I was going to go forward with such a thing, it would mostly be a personal mod however I could easily allow someone to 'recreate' it with free use material. I personally find it rather appealing as such a thing could entertain even me for hours upon hours (reason I say that is because it gets boring when you peak the techtree. Because after teching all the way it is a numbers battle regardless of the degree of mixing of fleets). This would allow you to be willing to take your time, slow down, and evolve through the timeline.
Now of course this community is bent on balance. Balance will be evident. As I would simply try to balance through use of larger numbers. Now of course you'd question me if you opened an odf seeing a starbase have nearly 200k shield strength. But I use larger numbers to allow more flexibility with balance, as well as allow easier definition of weapon strengths for smaller craft and whatnot.
Now I'd imagine you'd be trying to get the picture of who is in it. You got your non-voluntary members, the United Federation of Planets; the common rival, the Klingon Military Empire; the cunning and sly, Romulan Star Empire; the Ancient but strong, Cardassian Military Union; and the unknown and mysterious, Breen Confederacy.
Now of course the Federation is covered in all areas. However, I find the other races full of holes.
Klingons have the gaps of TOS ships other than the Khlode D7. Which makes it extremely hard early on. Plus there are like zero Klingon stations of any kind for the TOS era. The TMP era is mostly K'Tinga Class D7 and the Bird of Prey. Preferably I'd like to count the Q'udach (Insurrection class; from Shattered Universe and also seen in SFC 1) as canon but it is rather too far unknown. There are many gaps in the TMP era for the Klingons in both ships and stations. Once we get into the TNG era there are a few more designs of ships, however stations still have some dispute.
The Romulans are almost in-existent in the TMP-era. Most canon designs are accepted from games that try to fill this gap in the Romulan history. TOS era ships seem to be very few and otherwise rather rare to come across. The TNG era seems to be well filled with many ideas of Romulan starships, however the station design for Rommies is almost unseen. Only vague ideas are given on any idea how Romulan stations would appear.
The Cardassians are well filled out in the DS9/Post-TNG era. And according to what is often stressed about the Cardies. Cardassian tech and design has barely changed at all since the TMP era (I think). So it would simply be concerning about how the TOS and TMP eras will be distinguished and filled.
The Breen have only been known in one series of one era. And only one ship configuration has been seen, the famous Breen Battleship (other sources would say Frigate, Battlecruiser, Asssault Vessel, Heavy Cruiser, or Tactical Battleship, however plain battleship is the most accepted name). Which means that it is devoid of any appearances except in Deep Space Nine. However it is one of my favorite races and I cannot simply deny the ability to define the opinion of how the Breen race would appear in design let alone how they may look before the TNG era. A challenge I'm willing to take.
Of course there are holes. Anyone who is a modeler that is unemployed is more than accepted to assist. As you may wonder, why am I making such a big deal about a personal mod? Well, think of it this way. If I get permission on all the components. It could be released. Estimated maybe by 2012-2013. But overall I don't think this would be left around collecting dust at all. It'll be a project that I simply work on when none other is progressive.
I welcome opinions and thoughts on the idea. I am also welcoming suggestions on the execution of the project and maybe how to fill in some of the gaps. And also what do you think of the idea of a mod completely based on long-term variety? I am listening for your comments. After all, most games often run out of variety and new material quick, this is more-or-less a game to be built for long-lasting variety and games.

lol, I would have to agree with Boggz on that one. Good luck, and have fun with that
Actually, it sounds like it would be similar to k_merses Evolution mod.
