I'm unable to get on as much as I'd like.  :crybaby:  That's family life I guess!   At any rate, I vaguely remember someone working on a mod for Fleet Ops where you could choose which era you played in (and possibly "evolve" to other epochs, like in EE....though I'm unsure if this was a feature).  If anyone could post a link or give me the title of the mod, I would be very appreciative.

On an unrelated note, my 2nd son will probably be born on Halloween!  One more for the Collective!  :borg:

That would be Star Trek Evolution.  K_merse is working on it.

And congrats on your son!  I'm sure he will get extra bunches of candies on his birthday and have some pretty awesome parties.

Actually what'd be really neat is a trek mod of empire earth, just replace the ground units with the ships and all the terrain with space stuff.

buy the Expansion pack, art of war, and play in space instead of on the ocean.  On of the best expansion packs I have ever bought.

The expansion pack was somewhat limited, plus you cant mine in space, thus it'd be better to re-do ground units into ships, so you can kill miners.

Ehh, the expansion wasn't all that it couldve been. I loved the original, but art of war didnt really add all that much. Sure, the whole space thing was fun, but it just wasnt worth the $20 I spent for it.

Agreed, tho the additonal epoch was kinda fun on the ground, it still really didn't feel that much like it was worth it.

I was lucky, my wife bought the combined pack before I met her. I wasn't a fan of the space age, normally just going to the WWI age. Occasionally we would play up to the nano age but rarely we would go all the way, especially it would take all day to get there when constantly attacked by the AI.

Still it's my favourite RTS game after Age of Empires III.

Yeah I prefered WW2/modern age myself, the editor was one of the best ever in most respects as well, I'd spend whole weekends on a single map, giving myself a WW2 to modern era army, and give my enemy an army for about an epoch or so below, but edit all our build lists (via the easy check on/off editor options) to turn off stuff like prophets and some arty.

So much fun to helicopter a group of infantry with a few medics and an enginer, and set up a pillbox guarded barbed wire enclosure, hold it against 20x my numbers for a while, then pull them out with the choppers just as they're being over ran..... then nuke carpet bomb the area.

The EE editor was one of my personal favs, so much easier than Starcraft or EAW editors. I made some pretty in-depth campaigns with it, spanning through nearly all the ages, with a terrific storyline and whatnot, in much less time than with other programs. I hope they include something similar for the Fleetops editor, itd make things alot easier to do.

What's really a shame was that for EE2 the editor actually became WORSE.

EE2 and EE3 was rubbish compared to the original IMO. The first was the best and most fun.

EE2 had a few neat things, like roads, improved trade, etc, but the BIG thing was the territory system.

Of course the problem with that was, aside from the hard limits on buildings per territory, the fact that you couldn't pick their shapes in the editor (as far as I could tell anyway).

Some of th gameplay was better with some units at least, but it was broken by the fact that your options were more limited in instant action matches, even editor based matches

In instant action the ending epoch was a global value, you couldn't cap some sides out at differnt epochs (IE: 2v4 with the two getting one higher epoch), and the editor didn't allow any easy way to edit build lists either, so you couldn't just remove the epoch from one sides tech tree and play instant action thru the editor.

I bought EE3, and the discs are sitting arround somewhere, it was simply annoying to play.

I tried a demo of it, it actually stopped me from buying it
