Well Optec...after a battle i just had..i am quite happy...I was able to have individual caps for each ship..and have the Fleet Cap at the same time...i had created individual caps for each of my production ship...but for my norway i had forgotten to change the line from 'fleetcapfile = all_cap_fedproduction.odf' to 'fleetcapfile = all_cap_fnorway.odf' and when i went to look at how many Norways i had built..i was surpised to see that the cap for standard production ships..was reading at 30/70..and sure enough i had 30 ships built from my production yards...but i was also able to read that the saber for instance was at 2/8 and the Akira was at 3/10 etc...so i'm happy..is there any way to get a ship odf to display more than one Cap at a time? or how about a way to monitor my Fleet size without having to look at a ship?

similar stuff is on todo for the veteran cap, so that should be usable for your ideas too
its just not sure when we will do it
Vessels can count to mulitple cap files, but only one cap file can be used to limit a vessel. in your example, if you can build up to 10 sabres and up to 10 akiras, but both are in an additional fleetcap like assaultcrafts that only allows 12, you will still be able to build 10 sabres and 10 akiras (with an assaultcraft cap of 20/12).

Hmm, I'm not sure I understand.
in my mod, I have a cap so that I only have 5 slots. one ship takes up 1 slot and the other takes up two, but on many occasions, I will have 6/5 slots full. Could this be the cause?

nope, fleet caps work fine with different slot sizes, just check the veteran cap for example.
i will try to explain it again:
Let's say we have an Akira and a Saber both limited to 10 ships by an individual cap each. those are the cap files that are put in the Akira and Saber ODFs to limit the vessel. But there is an additional cap, assaultcrafts, where both the akira and die saber counts to and it limits to 15 vessels total. example:
We have..
10 Sabers - The Saber cap is full. The Saber construction option is now disabled, as Fleet Operations checks the SaberCap and indentifies that it is reached
3 Akiras - The Akira cap isn't full and we can still build Akiras.
Note that we never ever checked the assaultcrafts cap for gaining the build construction availability. if we build more Akiras, the situation might look like 10 Sabers and 7 Akiras. We will still be able to build more Akiras, as the AkiraCap is still reporting "let them come, i have room for more!". The assaultcrafts cap however is already full with 17/15 slots, but neither the Saber nor the Akira checks the assaultcrafts cap for its availablity
If you have a cap, that is never used in a craft odf, you can just delete it. The cap itself does nothing.

So let me understand this...if my saber cap is 8 and my akira cap is 10...but my 'production ship' cap is 15...and i have the max number of akiras and sabers allowed...the cap Production Cap will read 18/10? but if i put the cap file in the craft odf...then game will stop me after 10 ships..even though the saber OR akira might still have room?? Am i understanding correctly?

yep, but it would allow 10 sabers
