I believe the problem has never been that nobody can rotate them, but that they don't stay rotated when exporting.  It is a problem with the plugin. :pinch:

My method works fine with rotating as they work on my Clash of Empire models. The torpedoes fire backwards as intended. I use MS3D in the past without an issue.

Ok, nobody but you maj. :D :whistling:  I have tried your method too, with no avail, so you is just magic.   :thumbsup:  I would ask for your help on my ship, but I don't think you really want to try and get my 89 hardpoint battlestar working.   :sweatdrop:

TUN also has some hardpoints in unusual directions as I recall, but I am not sure if he made them or CanadianBorg  :sweatdrop:
