Hello all,

OK so......., I'm having some troubles opening the tech-tree file to edit. I have unchecked the read-only in properties, I have changed the security settings to allow user full control, I have even gone as far to disable windows user account control.... , but even still I can't open the file. I CAN open any other file and edit it and save it just fine, however this D**N tech-tree file will not open no matter what. :fish: LOL don't mind the language, just a little frustrated that this in the only file I can't open. Before anyone asks yes its both of them free-tech and tech1, neither one will allow me to open. I did notice that there is a special permissions tab in the security settings, however it's grayed out and is un-editable.

Thanks,
Ras

@ Tyler no not opening it just accessing it.

OK I even uninstalled it and put it in a diff. directory to make it easier to access, but still nothing this is the error I get.

Ok now I have done all the attributes and security settings, however I did notice when I reinstalled it and applied the 3.1.3 patch at the end of install it displayed something about applying file attributes I can only deduce that this is whats causing all the problems. Because I can change or edit any other files except the two tech-trees.

My account on windows 7 is the admin account so its not the account.

On a side note I started windows in safe mode to try and change the att. and access and still got same error.

:D OMG!!!

I got it fixed, I feel so dumb right now. I wasn't even paying attention to what windows was trying to open the file as. I have a lot of development software on my PC, and one of them is Text Templating which is for network access stuff, so It was trying to open it as a network resource which is what was giving me the error.

SOOOO if anyone else ever has this problem, click on properties and where it says type of file and opens with *. click change then select your fav. text editor.

Problem resolved Mods can lock topic.

Thanks,
Ras
