Hey I've looked back and can't find any Galaxy class ships that are buildable and just plain that you can build in a factory. That also show as 3.1.5. Does such a thing exist?
Also, I noticed a pretty fun looking pack for classic ships - the Constitution/Reliant etc but they're for 3.1.3 -How would I get those to work for 3.1.5 ? Or is that not possible?

Getting older ships to work in a current version needs code renamed to stock (the guide lists the changes), locations for weapon icons (which can be copied from another ship and edited) and a new wireframe for the single-ship select. The wireframe would probably take the longest but it should be easy aside from that.
The game already comes with buildable Warp-Ins in the McKinley Yard. Just open fed_mckinley_yard.odf and copy the entry into another yard.

So if I just copy fed_mckinley_yard.odf into another yard I'll get the warp in ships to build?

Fed_mckinley_yard is the name of the yard odf, it has a ship build list in it like the normal yards. Copy the ships entry from that list into another yard and it'll be available there.
Though adding fed_mckinley_yard to the build list of a constructor would also work, making the yard itself buildable. All warp-in ships would be available by extension.

or just add fed_galaxyA.odf to a shipyard buildlist.

if u are playing single player you can use map editor to place a mckinley yard each game without the need for odf editing. just push control+e and add the mckinley yard to the map. then control+e to go back to the game.

Cheers Tyler.
Took me a few reads (as I'm pretty mod/code illiterate) but I've done it.
Hurrah for me!

I'm very new here. I also want the Galaxy Class starship in the game buildable.
I tried to edit the fed_mckinley_yard.sod but in NOTEPAD I got gobabdygook :-). Is there a special editor I need?

No. What you need to edit is the ODF file, and that one can be opened with every editor. The SOD file is just the 3D model.

Ok, I found the ODF files in the ODF.fpq
I made the following change to:
fed_antares_yardY.odf
fed_antares_yardZ.odf
basename = "fed_antares_yard"
verbosetooltip = "AUTOTOOLTIP-fed_antares_yardY.odf"
builditem0 = "fed_saberY"
builditem1 = "fed_monsoonY"
builditem2 = "fed_intrepidY"
builditem3 = "fed_akiraY"
builditem4 = "fed_canaveralY"
builditem5 = "all_alliedrepair"
builditem6 = "all_halt"
builditem7 = "fed_galaxyA"
basename = "fed_antares_yard"
verbosetooltip = "AUTOTOOLTIP-fed_antares_yardZ.odf"
builditem0 = "fed_saberZ"
builditem1 = "fed_monsoonZ"
builditem2 = "fed_intrepidZ"
builditem3 = "fed_nova"
builditem4 = "fed_akiraZ"
builditem5 = "fed_canaveralZ"
builditem6 = "fed_norway"
builditem7 = "all_alliedrepair"
builditem8 = "all_halt"
builditem9 = "fed_galaxyA"
classlabel = "shipyard"
Still not working :-(

YAY! Got it to work. I moved the builditemX = "fed_galaxyA" before the builditemX = "all_alliedrepair"
Off to bed now, I'll add more ships on the weekend. Cool game. Plus I like the Galaxy class ship a lot!
