Hi all,
I was curious if the diplomacy options from armada 1 could ever make a re-appearance in the form of an armada 2 or fleet ops mod. Its one of the few features i enjoyed from armada that wasn't improved in its sequel, i love the concept of the Klingons allying with the Romulans against the Federation, and then turning on each other when the threat is removed.
I haven't had much experience modding armada 2 as such i am a little unsure of its capabilities and flexibility so i thought i would ask.

I was also curious about the ship/station poly limit, ive been thinking of trying my hand at an fleet ops ship, since i am a 3d modeler lol.

What are "diplomacy options"?
Poly counts are not really a problem - most of our modern units aim at about 7-10k polies. Rare vessels for us go as high as 20k. Textures is more of a problem, so keeping at 256 for in-game is important

Thanks for the info, by diplomacy option, in armada 1 while in-game you could choose if a race is at peace, natural or at war with you, war meant your ships would attack on sight, natural meant you could attack but only by your order, and peace meant your ships would help the other team.
These settings could also be defined before the game started allowing the player to turn on allys when they choose, it also made multiplayer much more interesting. Similar to the way the early command and conquer games worked.

Is there an average poly count you use for ships and stations, for example stations 10k, large ships 6k small ships 2k ect?

Isn't that the 'Alliances' setting? I think it was in A2 before, so FO could probably handle it.

Yes, Alliances are a popular multiplayer option in Fleet Operations as well
. You might not have seen it before because it is not used by the AI (singleplayer).
Our limits on poly counts are more set by the complexity of the model and how often it will appear - we don't set it by the size of the model. Some complex models are quite small while some large ones are not. Just experiment and you should be fine
. Poly counts are not the be and end all of gaming.

I believe the original poster is referring to a different A1 feature than the one you are remembering
In Armada 1 it was possible to set teams/alliances. However, it was also possible to set simply "friend, neutral, foe" and also allowed players to change this stance in game. AFAIK, the alliance setting, both in A1 and A2 was a locked system (once you set up the game, that was it, you were unable to make or break treaties)

Team changing is the Alliance mode. Locked teams is the default.

That was exactly what i was referring to and im my opinion the only feature from a1 that was better than a2's equivalent.
Thanks to everyone for the info, i haven't had the opportunity to play fleet ops multiplayer so it is possible i have simply overlooked this.

Here's what it looks like in-game

What I really wish I could do is turn off alliances at the end of a game. By the time my side defeats the other side there are oodles of ships all over the map and I just want to tell my allies to go F*** themselves and just start a massive map wide brawl between all the remaining teams.

Yea lol i loved doing that on multiplayer, makes the game more entertaining, and keeps it going.

I agree with this - I've played against the AI with a few few friends over multiplayer, and I've always wanted to surprise them by turning against them in the endgame.

When you have activated Alliances you can switch alliances with human players with the click of a button.

I meant turning the AI alliances off.
