dunno if this has been asked before, i just stood up an am to lazy to search (lol), so just to throw an idea in here:

is it possible to get the AI behave like the base strategies in the hitchhikers guide?
and if so, how much work would that imply? (and if not, why?)

i thought about a few ppl on the forum here who complained about how they are not able to play this game online (like incredible lagspikes or the game crashing while trying to login an all the things you can think of), and a change like this would be awesome i believe, even for onlineplayers for training situations etc. but basicly for those who cant play online for whatever reason. so they can get an idea of what this game is all about. i think the whole experience would become way better for everyone (newbies wouldnt get owned instantly when they enter the mp part of the game, the baselevel of players would be better and more of a challenge even for the good ones etc).

opinions?

Easier said than done I'm afraid.

well, maybe i should change the question to "behave like or closer to the strategies".. but is it possible at all?
or did i miss something important here?

The fundamental way the AI works is almost unchangeable as far as I know, which makes it difficult to emulate any kind of strategy at all.

But maybe it is possible to get closer.

Well i was told the AI would never be able to use cloaking.... however as you can see they do. But to your point it would be very difficult to change the way the AI work. but just maybe in the future it will be somewhat more inteligent

yes i also think it would be a good idea to figure out how to make the AI a little more civilized!
i just got done having my ass whooped. i was playing in hard mode and just a few minutes into the game my opponents size was more than twice mine with so many prototype vessels it seemed my opponent had a 4 to 1 advantage. now that to me take alot of the fun out of the game. i am always up for a good challenge but DAMN thats not a fight its a slaughter..

we have not yet touched the coding of the AI, but we have many ideas for it on todo

I think it's possible to force the AI to load a different AIP midgame (at least I saw a function for it when poking around), so maybe using smaller AIPs and jumping between them could create a more dynamic build list.

This thread is old. So old I have to post something here

Recently I played around with the AI as I really got bored because of all the cheating and spamming and whatever  >:( (Btw playing online is much more fun! But not everyone has the chance to play online when he'd want to  :sweatdrop: )

So here's the thing: I figured out that there's a way to make the AI indeed more "civilized" only by modifying the buildlist and using all options it offers. Currently I'm tweaking the Feds. Only the few changes I made some guide strategies in mind ended up in an interesting match without a cheating AI!

I'll release the file as soon as I'm happy with it in an extra thread :)

Atm i just set the AI with a handicap for buildtime and cost so they actially play at a normal rate but if you guys are gonna change the AI to play realistically can I reqest race introduction tutorials? I only play the Borg because they're the most interestinf ro me but if there were tutotirals I'd get myself familiar with the other races too. So summary: tutorials for all races what to build and general direction to head

Your questions shall be answered ;)
You might find what you're looking for in the strategy section of "da Guide"
