So i want my cardassians to have yellow shields...I've added the sprite entries into the fleetops.spr file...ive copied and changed all the relative tgas so that they have a yellow hue to them....but i can't find the sprite file that has these entries

shieldhit = "shield_fed_hitS"
shieldhitcritical = "shield_fed_hitcritS"
shielddown = "shield_fed_down"

that way i can specify my cardassian shields

shieldhit = "shield_card_hitS"
shieldhitcritical = "shield_card_hitcritS"
shielddown = "shield_card_down"

Did you replace the sods or simply change the color of the texture? I did the color change and i copied and pasted and renamed the sods and that works...but i wanted them to be yellow..so when i went into MS3D and changed the colors and exported them...the squares around the shield grids are no longer transparent...how do i fix this??

The material has to be set to additive blending. or just make your own sphere with a texture and additive blending :)
