Hello everyone, I'm attempting to add a modified version of the excelsior into the game, but I keep getting the flying error. I've read the guide and followed it to the best of my ability, but I'm stuck...

I added the copied odfs under a new name, added the new ship into the yard odf, added it into the veteran cap odf, copied the excelsior info from the tech1 file and put it under the new name, same with the global gui. and i added a renamed copy of the shipimage into the admirals log.

maybe its because im going on 30 something hours of no sleep...but yeah, any help would be most appreciated

What is "the flying error"? What exactly happens when you try to play it?

The flying error means that it can't read a sod file due to either it not being there or that the basename command in the odf file is pointing to a sod not there.

It's just like the white cube with the red bug on it from Stock Armada 1 and 2.

ohhhh i see now. The flying ERROR. Now I see.

In that case, add:

basename = "fed_excelsior"

:to every ship odf.

Yes, the FO dev team just changed the sod that shows with the error to something a little nicer looking and more informative I think.

Yeah, I'd read it as "the flying error" as in an error that's about flying. Not a literal "error" that IS flying.

And yeah, the "Error" does look nicer than A2's "The Young Ones" screenshot, and A1's "SOD OFF" box.

hey, I have another question for you Majestic, how do I edit stats for passive abilities? looking through the odfs, I've found that most of them, (the borg auto adaption scanner is the specific one.) has no info on anything. So I'm not even sure where to start on the editing process.

You really wont be able to edit the passives.... well you can but it would take forever. I cant quite think of a good way to explain it so ill just wait on someone smart to answer this question.

is it a sod issue? all i need is to know where to find the technical data

my goal is to take the auto adaption scanner, and change it to getting a higher percentage of defense vs the attacking ship's weapons

Editing a passive is a matter of individualy editing the weapon odfs. Because Passives are applied through uniquly applied values, the Passive odf is there so it can have an icon.

Example, if you wanted you ship to do more dammage to a certan ship, you list the viictim ships odfs underneath the damage value.

If you want it to take more from a certain ship, you have to edit the assilant ships weapon odfs to register the change.

Does that awnser you question?

Edit: these rule also apply to taking or giving less damage,
