Does anyone know what the addon folder is for?  I would like to know because other games gave a folder similarly named, and I am wondering if it serves the same purpose.  It would be awesome if it did.

Well, for some reason it has the fed_outpost.SOD in there... it's been there since 3.0.0 was released though as far as I remember  :sweatdrop:

Probably a forgotten idea.

In Armada 1 the ODF's were uncategorized and they were all dumped in the Addon folder rather than the ODF folder. I don't know why that would be brought back in any form though. Maybe the idea was that you could place modded ODF's in there and have a toggle in the Instant Action setup to play with mods on or off?

The addon folder has to do with collision boxes in a way. Basically you put the SOD in that folder of what you want an object to look like, and an SOD of a different shape in the SOD folder to handle collision. The SOD's have to be the same name though. I use it in Sigma for several instances since a lot of stations are too ginormous for the AI so the AI version of the stations have much smaller collision boxes.

Hmm, I"m not sure if I understand, but it isn't what I thought it was, so thanks for the info.

What exactly do you mean by collision boxes? :sweatdrop:

Collision box refers to the area around a unit where if one unit is passing another they might "bump". Aka, pathing around other units  ^-^

I should probably have worded it better.  :sweatdrop:

Basically, say you have we.SOD in the SOD folder.
You put a completely different model with the name we.SOD in the addon folder.
In game, the model will appear as the SOD in the addon folder.
but have the properties of the SOD in the SOD folder like collision boxes.

If you open up the fed_oupost.sod in the SOD folder you'll notice the model is missing various part such as the top section, while fed_outpost.SOD in the addon folder has the complete model. In FO it visually shows the SOD model of the outpost in the addon folder, but the actual unit has all the physical properties of the SOD in the SOD folder.

Hopefully that helped out.

Hmm, so do they have to be similar or can you out a very small completely different model in the SOD folder, and have it look like a big model through the addon folder, allowing ships to pass very close to it?

There should be no reason I can think of why they would need to look similar :) . I put the explanation in the Intro and cleaned up some stuff in case you lose this thread by the way.  ^-^
