Lol, I feel kinda silly. The solution to my problem was so simple! Just make a new buildable unit that is basically the saber class ship but with all the stats and weapons I want it to have. I'm usually using the "levelup" cheat anyway so I dont really need to worry about different ranks (the ship will just be l33t when it leaves the shipyard). I know that its cheating but I have no interest in multiplayer anyway.
I feel like we've all grown from this experience.
On a side note, anyone know of an easy way to get the benefits of both avatars. They are both so good I hate choosing....and I love having more options.
