vanishing derelicts

Hi All

Strange problem with my first attempt at map making. After just a few mins of playing the map i made, the derelict ships just vanish before my very eyes. They don't have cloaking tec so its not that. I also have a derelict outpost and ship building facility but these don't vanish and they all have the same settings. very strange. Has anyone come across this before and if so, did you find an answer?

Yes, the derelict trigger has problems  ... try setting the ships to have zero crew and set as another player (one that won't be used). The derelicts should then be captureable and useable :)

My test map is a two player map. I have set the derelicts as player 3. All ships and stations have no crew. As i said before, it only seems to be the ships and not the stations that vanish.

Is there a step by step guide for making derelict ships and stations some where? I must be doing some thing wrong. :(

I can capture and crew the ships and stations. Its just that if i don't hurry, the ships vanish before i can get to them.

Hmmm, very odd: there are a couple of people with experience in map making that you may wish to contact: RCIX, Mal, Jarod, are just a few.

There are also a few threads on this issue in the forums  :(

Please excuse me for being dum (nubie). This is the first time i have used a forum and have no idea how to go about doing what you have suggested?

Well, there is the Private Message system (just type in the person's name, or look in the Map-Making section and find someone who seems fairly active in making maps and ask them for help).

I'm looking for some threads on the matter as we speak, I'll post them here when I find 'em  :sweatdrop:

Thanks for that. Ive sent RCIX a private message. Ive just been testing my map after using some suggestions in the thread you sent me. I actualy saw what happens to my ships. They don't vanish. They Explode.  :( Yet the staions are still fine. Crazy or what? Hehe!!

Hi RCIX

Ok. Its only a test map. It should be attached to this. I have tried 3 different ways of making derelicts. all ending with the same problem. The way to play this map (personaly) is to set the game up so the "non player race's" is unticked so the ferengi don't nick off with them. I also speed the game up to number 6. Plus i set it so i am playing the feds in the top left of the map. Oh, i also set it so i can see all of the map all of the time. Once i have started the game i transport onto the other space docks next to my own (Make sure i survive to see the problem). I then send my 3 ships out scouting just for the sake of it. If you move over the part of the map where a derelict is and wait for three to five mins you get to see the fireworks. :( This happens to all the derelict ships at the same time no matter where they are on the map. If i d'ont transport onto the extra derelict spacedocks nothing happens to them. They seem to work ok. This happens to all maps i make and its starting to put me off wanting to make maps.  >:( I hope you can figure this out as im freash out of ideas.

I still want to do more testing but have you tried setting the derelict team to "ai-mission" instead of "ai-hard"?

Yes i have, with the same result. the only thing i forgot to mention was when i set a derelict to player 3 i also set the percieved player to 3 as well. Not sure what it does but it dose not seem to bother derelict spacedocks or platforms. Also i have noticed that if i leave crew on the ships in the editor they don't blow up in the game. i think sherlock holmes would have a hard time with this one. Have you seen them blow up yet?

Yes, the "zero crew" derelist ships explode by themself after about a dozen minutes.
I have never found a way around this, it probably won't get fixed either, but the new FO derelict creation trigger will be :)

AARRGGHHH!!!  NNNOOoo o o!!!  :'(  :crybaby:

My life is at an end. Making a map will never be the same again.

Joking aside. many thanks to the both of you for your wisdom and help. Im not giving up just yet though. :)
