It it possible to create a map that provides just a constructor and a certain amount of resources in the beginning? If so, how is that possible?

Just edit the race odf to replace the Starbase with 2 Constructors. I don't think it can be done as a map specific thing, unless they bring back the unit settings from A1.

Editing the odf to do this will remove avatars, though.

Well...i was more thinking of some sort of Aussault map we have seen in stock A2. So when placing a starting point it's a constructor and not a base. Also giving this spot a specific amount of resources.
I'd like to do a map where each player first has to find the right location for himself and build up his base there.

in the map settings window of a map, in the start locations tab there are options for each starting point for the resources.

i've never played with these so i dont know if they work. obviously di is di, latinum is tri, biomatter is supply. i wouldnt mess with the others :P

I tried experimenting with the idea and made a map where the start location was strategically useless in every respect (Except for maybe decomissioning the starbase for resources), forcing each player to venture into the resource rich asteroid field. The main advantage being that people could choose from one of around ten practical start locations and their opponents wouldn't know where they were. I never received any feedback on that map, so I don't know how it panned out in MP but I quite liked it in SP :)

I think the odf resource levels overrule those unless you change them after starting a game.

just tested it, tyler is right, those settings dont change the starting res. it would be nice if they could be enabled :whistling:

What about them? Their Constructor builds Starbases just like anyone elses... everyone else also builds Miners from their Starbase, too.

No problem there.

i think he means that non borg races can build a mining station and get a free miner which allows them to not build a starbase until necessary.

He's right...that could turn into a problem. Anyways...as soon as there is no way to alter anything at all we dont need to exhaust our brains.

Yeah, Marc tried out an Assault map (obviously modifying ODFs) to have you start with just constructors and scout - FO isn't balanced for that though at the moment  :sweatdrop:

hey dom, do the other map types in the general map settings work any more? like mission and gather latinum lol

They do not I'm afraid - they can be made to work through the MMM as well as odf stuff, but not anything for "stock FO"
