New Map feature

Something that would be nice is to be able to overlay an image onto a map in the map editor so that we can make maps easier.

You mean like a temporary background pic?

No it would get overlaid like the grid so that we could do things like trace shapes in that picture.

That would be pretty useful! That way you could draw your map out of game, get it just right and then import it into the editor as a temporary overlay (obviously a bit see through so you can see both the map and the picture).

I remember a game (i think it was Earth 2150), which the map editor allowed you to basically draw a .bmp image in windows paint, and the editor would load up the image and use the different colors to associate a terrain type and altitude and places in the pattern you drew.  You couldn't place map objects such as trees, buildings, roads, street lamps or whatever except in the editor itself, but it was a quick and easy way to create the terrain, mountains, rivers etc.  Something like that would be great in every map editor!
