This is a forum for people who'd like a map that they themselves either cannot make, or simply do not know where to start with making it. I'll start off with some simple requests.

Request 1:
Players: 7
Prefered Config: 2 vs 2 vs 3 (the 3 are centered in by the four others, like monkey in the middle)
Map Type: Labryth/Maze
Size: Lg or XLg

Request 2:
Players: 3
Prefered Config: FFA
Map Type: Unique (make up a style)
Size: Med or Lg

Description: Have the starter moons quite distant from the starting point.

Intriguing. I have some "time off" at the moment, so when I'm not wasting catching up on work, I might have a look into creating something which fits those requests.

my first request would for a few asymetrical 8 player maps . ive tried to make my own but well they are crap lol (the maps dont have to be 8 players)if someone could make one or two it would be much appreciated

One or two relatively symmetrical 5 player maps (which are good for 1v1, like The Reef - thus they've gotta be relatively small) and a new assymetrical 8 player map like Fascist suggests would be nice :)

5 Player maps, you say?  Good for 1 v 1 you say?  :D  Hmm .... so maybe like a map that will have extra resources for a 1 v 1 and sufficient but scarce for a 5 FFA or 2 v 3?

  Interesting :).

As for 8 Player Assymetricals, I made a great big one that I really wanted to release that used planets with REAL Moons acting as actual moons, but it's so big I don't think it's playable :(.

For now Stardust's "Battlefield" is a great 8 player map if you ask me.  It works awesome for 4 v 4 or 2 v 2 v 2 v 2.  I think Phoenix and can handle the varying degrees of asymmetry (SUPER asymmetrical vs slightly asymmetrical).

  :)

Not precisely, but close - take a look at The Reef (and there is another one that is a 5 player "corridor"). Both of those maps are relatively small and allow expansion in a lot of directions. I usually consider them 1v1 maps for people who really want to have difficult and interesting games. All the normal 1v1 maps are fun, but not as tactically difficult: not only do you not have to do a whole lot of scouting in those (you know where your opponent is likely to expand, and where expansions will remain, as well as knowing exactly where your opponent will start off), but it rewards those who maintain a balance between expanding and building vessels - and of course a bunch of other stuff :D

Oh ok ... I see.

So basically because there are the expansions for 5 you are not sure exactly where your opponent is going to go ... hmhmm....  Me likez.

I love it when the entire paradigm for making maps changes as we discover new shit :D.

 THIS is old shit - just nobody recently (aka, read before your time my man  :whistling: ) has been playing those maps in this way on Tunngle/Wippien.

Used to do it a lot more often back in 3.0.7 and before - but now because 1v1 has been relegated to the wayside, and because we lost some of our more competitive players for the time being, 1v1 on a 5 player map isn't exactly people's idea of fun it seems

I'd really like to see a resurgence of that in the next patch though, especially as the Borg should actually be competitive on those larger maps!  :D

Well I meant paradigm shift in the sense that maps can be built in new layouts because of the 3.1 speed changes, then moons and sizes started to shift as we realized that those speeds relegated certain shifts to certain roles.  Thus a map around a certain size would allow most ships to fulfill their roles adequately (fast raiders, slow supports, and long range bombardment).

3.1.2. and the subsequent RE-shifts in speed should throw a monkey wrench in that I'm eager to see.  I await testing that will show whether maps need to move down slightly from about 18k x 18k for a 3v3 to something small in order to achieve optimal roles :).

And the map size DOES affect that :D.  I may not have been here as long as others, but I know for damn sure that, as with any other RTS, map sizes affect how a game is played ^-^.

Not that you were disputing that :).

Yup, indeed. All I was referring to was the fact that nobody plays 1v1 on those anymore  ^-^

*Bumped*

I'd like to request a asymmetrical 5 player map that is very open and not densely packed with resources. Can someone make it?
