The Shadow Zone is a map designed to stress nebulas that keep ships hidden and render their shields useless (Warning, maybe somewhat exploitable by the Borg).  Miners will also be easy prey on most dilithium moons, and even some tritanium moons as well, given the close proximity to certain nebulas.

I haven't played many games on it yet, but was able to win as a Fed-Mayson allied with a Dominion-normal faction against two hard AIs.  One was Borg and the other Fed-Mayson.  I think it still needs some slight tweeks on where some of the moons and nebulas are, but other than that it's basically good to go.  At least for what I was shooting for.  Though I almost forgot, it does still need a preview image that I have yet to play with.

You have to take a screenshot and cut out the minimap image yourself resize to 160x160 then save it as bmp.

Also put everything in one zip/rar please.

Lol aren't we picky...

However his is correct that your .png file needs to be a .bmp file in order for the game to recognize it as a minimap ^-^

i love the way 9 people have opened a quite obviously empty png file...

why is it empty anyway? i mean why post it if you dont wanna show a minimap?

Because that is what the game creates when you save your map.

Yep, but thanks for the info.  I'll get around to correcting this at some point in the future.  I really just threw it in cause I didn't know if the map would work without it.  So it really only exists for the off chance it would have crashed the game or something unexpected like that.  I wouldn't know, but I figured it'd potentially save me from having to come back and immediately having to fix it.

Also, I have no clue how to "package" this as a zip/rar file.  But I do have winzip, so I guess I could look through it.  Personally I've only used it for opening stuff.  So if I figure it out, I'll change it and do up anymore maps in the future that way.

Thanks for the feedback!

highlight the files you wanna compress and right click one of them, then go send to, then compressed (zipped) folder. then post that one zip file.

Thanks!  That helped a ton in figuring out how to do it.

I've been working on this map which I call Defender's Guard.  It's meant to be a 2v2 team battle that favors the defenders (on the left) a bit more than the invaders (on the right).  Initially it was even suppose to 'give' a Ferengi Marauder to the defenders as a jump start ship, but any derelicts added wouldn't show up, so I removed it for the time.  I don't think this is as fun to play on as my other map, but I'll put it out here for anyone just wanting an idle new map to play with.

if u want to add derelicts u have to add them to an unused player team. so on a 2v2 map the players will tend to use teams that arent 8, so setting ships to team 8 with no crew will make them derelicts waiting to be boarded. setting them to team 0 will mean they cant be boarded. setting them to the team number of any player will be interesting, ive heard sometimes that they get limited sight from it. i know for certain that any ship with crew (or turret) set to a player team will disappear.

Thanks again Myles!  I've replaced the Defender's Guard zip in my post above with an updated one that now includes the working Maurader.

lol You gotta make sure that you've deleted the blank png for your system before uploading a map.

Is it causing a problem?  I'm confused by this statement.  In the future I'll try and include an accurate png file as well, but unless the blank is causing a problem I won't go back and add them in.  Well, unless I get a few requests to.

Edit 1:  Hmm, perhaps a better question is what kind of size and other details go into a png file?  I can save to the format, but it doesn't seem to want to work right.

Edit 2:  Nevermind!  I see what I did wrong.  I accidentally reset the format during naming.  Though it was strange that it still seemed to go through with the png format, but it didn't.  It had reset it to bmp.

Here's the pngs of the previous maps if anyone wants them.

PNGS are only needed for the game setup screen for when you do something like what TCR did with his borg space map and the nekrit expanse map. Otherwise its the standard three files(bmp/bzn/txt) that you should have and no png.

I have no clue what you're making reference to, first off.  Second, the png's seem to work fine as far as showing the map before hand as opposed to after when clicking the unhide map option.  What is it that you're having a problem with specifically?  I'm having a hard time comprehending what your asking for.

Edit:  Nevermind, if you don't want the pngs just delete them then.  It's not like the blank ones even took up space...
