Badlands - 4 player huge map

This is my first map i will post. The original one had far more nebulas .. but after testing and feedback i decided to remake the map. Aslo if i add to manny nebulas the game crashes .. sadly a realy dangerouse badlands is not makable.

If someone can make a balanced Badlands ( nebulas, moons, 1 sun and nothing else ) pls contact me !

Alas this map works, mostly as i intended :

1. I'm not fond of 10-15 min games, here you may explore and be rewarded,

2. Expanshion is not as easy as you would prefer, but alas this is the point in this map

3. Some NPCs may be founld with some derilicts ( it is up to you to look for them)

4. The map has manny moons from wich you can mine but those that are not protected will be problematic even for a borg player ( added 2 more per player unprotected, moved starting position)

5. I connected the bases with wormholes for attack purposes (now only 4 they work NW to SE and NE to SW), makes the long trip shorter .. but dont expect them to be battle winners, but neglect them at your own risk

Edit : feedback is welcome .. and i intend to make a hell vershion of this map .. still need more testing .. and the ai is not the best testing partner

Edit: thanx to testing and feedback the map is slighly changed
- the middle is more rewarding (added 4 more moons) but also more dangerouse (a litle more)
- Resized the map form 35000 to 33000
- no more random flying probes, instead  :borg: turrets
- added few more nebulas

True .. but to keep it balanced they were needed. Also the map is to keep you from building huge fleets. So do not exept huge fleets in 20 mins. Alas i cant prevent teching up. So some players will go directly for the biggest ships .. but thanx to the wormholes that may proove difficult.

the nebula starship at the top right has crew on it ( you forgot to kill it's crew ) :lol:


also I have a few questions, how did you make the probes do what they did, cuz i tried to make a hell map but all the ships came pouring out of the wormhole Dx

If you intend to add Cubes and Spheres, add them to Team 1, start the map (Ctrl+E), build them manually, return to edit mode and continue with the map making. Otherwise, you just get more dull Uplinks to kill one by one.

Why not give the AI an identity? Set the Type to AI-Mission/Medium, give them a race identity (like Borg, since the units are Borg) set them to be forced onto team 5 and give them a team color? You can see them in the admirals log that way.

The AI is set as 'empty', maybe that is the reason?

Actually all Fed ships ( 2 Galaxy : USS Edo -E- USS Tokyo -W- 4 Nebula: Kyushu -SW- Honshu -SE- Hokkaido -NE-  Shikoku -NW- have no crew ), but the empty AI borg i did not want to make too hard to counter, so only probes are present at all the wormholes, they may beam over some crew to the derilicts.

No i did not intend to add fully build cubes, or anny other ship .. the ideea is that these borg are defective, they fought ( probably a fed fleet ), but seem to have been somewhat neutrelized. So all you need to be prepared for are the turrets, probes, and one base.

Also if i adeed the AI normally then it would start spamming scout cubes, and other ships .. wich would make the game mostly a player vs AI game. I rather think of the currently added borg "thingies" as a distraction, as 4 players duke it out.

Since the size of the map is comparable to an 8 (35000x35000) player map, and i added nebulas ( not as manny as in my first attempts ), the defended moons should make the game longer. The wormholes are actually for players whom choose the borg, as after some testing it takes too much time for them to get to the other players base, giving them time to rebuild a full fleet.

This map should prevent players from having 3-4 full stack fleets, considering that at least 2 players play aggresively.

Sorry if i missed anny questions ...

Aslo i will reload all the maps.. just to be safe .. and i douled checked all derilicts

Incorrect, they only start building if you add the Nexus that is used in the AI files. Adding the other one does nothing at all.

  To be honest man, I think that the first Opti Sphere that comes through that Wormhole is going to basically show up un-opposed.  Part of the way to defeat an Opti rush is having that little extra time while it's plodding it's way for you to get out another rhienn, finish researching tricobalts or get your Veq's armed with alternate Armament.

    Just a thought.  I think your attempt to make it more balanced for Borg might totally fuck anything else.

Boggz perhaps you are right .. but testing a map vs the AI is not as testing it vs players. I still need some testing .. perhaps i will move the wormholes farther away. As i said testing is needed.

Tyler, well i added the main borg base in the midle of the map .. and as i'm not that experienced with map making anny tips or secrets would be appriciated. Also feel free to edit the map to your liking, just send me a copy  :thumbsup:.

The map looks much better though, Dex!  I myself found out recently about the pathing problems Nebulas create.

Can there be more moons? It is a struggle to fight against AI when you have 2 moon pairs and your 5th moon is in a neucleon nebula. :sweatdrop:

EDIT: Ohhh.... I didn't get the update... nmd. ^-^
