Has anyone checked out OpenRA
http://openra.res0l.net/

I imagine you guys working on Fleet Operations have your plans, im just a filthy lurker with little modding experience. But given the state of the official game's availability, alternative engines are just exciting to me, im compelled to make a post on the subject.

There is a resurgence of Command and Conquer open source engines out there now *yes, yes its isometric graphics* but its still hot shit :) Star Trek with its depth of content would easily fill into something like OpenRA its got its own built in mod distribution, there are already 3 major mod total conversions Classic C&C, Red Alert and Dune.

Most importantly it kind of fills the same game mode(s) you guys like, unlike Sins, Homeworld etc it kind of feels more natural to Fleet Operations.

But they its just wishful thinking, im a fanboy and I have no clue about the actual maturity of OpenRA to space tilesets, space weapons, ai etc.

It looks damn good though, very good.

C&C is an old classic from my past too and I enjoyed playing openRA  Brings back alot of nostalgic moments.

It's not suited for a future Fleet Operations release, though, but we are working on something.

C&C engines before SAGE/RNA aren't as flexible as Armada's, in spite of the fans' attempts to make patches to fix that (Ares for RA2, 3.03p-Iran for RA1 etc.). Period.

PortableRA > all else, too.
