Which race in star trek would you choose to be?
Which race do you like most? What do you like - what you don't like? Discuss it here.

Leaving super races like Q and that one old dude on the planet that lived with his fake trophy wife and wiped out an alien species aside. Which race would you like to be.
I would go with Gynans sp? race Eloran or however it is spelled. They live a freaking long time. My second choice is that one guy that faked his death on board the shuttlecraft when he killed the Klingon scientist that was working on some kind of shielding. I don't remember his race but it was the episode where Dr Crusher went on her own and uncovered the plot even when no one else believed her. All I remember is that their species had everything spread out over the entire body on a cellular level and they were super hard to kill. If they live along time then I would pick them but I don't remember what their lifespan was or even if it was mentioned at all. If not the Eloran.

guinan was an el-aurian, apparently she had some ability to compete with q. he seemed surprised she was on the ship, and then he became defensive towards her. i personally thought that part of her character was incredibly stupid.
jo'bril was a takaran. he killed the ferengi reyga who built the metaphasic shield.
i'll take the edo, not the ascended edo god things, the actual people, they lived in bliss, and were almost guaranteed protection by the ascended edo god things.

I'd say Romulan, except that I'm not sure if I'd really want to live in that society. Vulcan or human would be a good life, I think (though that probably applies to most of the Federation species).
Borg would at the very least be interesting.

Gorn or Hydran
Gorn because i'd be tremendously strong and people would constantly underestimate my cunning and intelligence. Hydran because they live in a rigid social system that seems to work quite nicely.
Plus they both have physical resistances to heat, cold, vacuum and such considerably more so than humanoid species (well the Gorn are Humanoid, just)

I'd probably just settle with god old Human; not the best species, not the worst.
Provided you keep off the flowers...

Good one Tyler, made me lol. Id say maybe a Trill. the slug part, talk about interesting life, your not constrained to just one lifetime of experiances nor just one gender!

Hmm, in descending order...
Human
Changeling (with a worldview more like Odo's)
Trill Symbiont (very well pointed out, Equinox)
Half-Vulcan (while Spock's path was a hard one, it was incredibly rewarding)
Klingon
Human

Trill Symbiont (very well pointed out, Equinox)
Half-Vulcan (while Spock's path was a hard one, it was incredibly rewarding)

On the plus side:-
Multiple Genders
Multiple Lifetimes
Incredible longevity
On the downside:-
You're a slug.

Yes you may be a slug, but your still part of the host body as well, guess we dont really know how the slug part lives. We know that people who are joind are forever changed so how much the slug acutally "merges" with the current hosts biology is unkown, if its kinda like being the passenger in a car, you experiance all the same sensations and see everything just like the driver, but arnt in total control but have imput on where and how you get somewhere that wouldnt be too bad, who cares if you were a slug then. Not like you would be living like a slug.

I don't know how much influence the slugs actually get. They have a very strict admissions process for a reason. There is also the chance that you end up in the body of a serial killer like Dax did and you don't have any control over their actions so you have to live with those memories as the slug. You can keep them from the new host but you still have to deal with them.
Imagine if some emergency occurred and you had to be put into a fat smelly Trill that never got laid and just sat around and watched reruns of Tom and Jerry all day long. You would have to put up with that for years.
This is assuming that you can't outright kill your host by eating his pancreas or something. I don't know if they have mouths or not.
I kind of put Changelings in the super race category. Especially since in the one episode they are capable of transforming into a mist
One of the dumbest episodes ever.
They live practically forever, can be anything they want.....did I mention that they could become a mist AS WELL AS A FLAME.
Jeesh, there are very few episodes that were so blatantly bad that I literally had to force meyself to finish watching it years after it first aired but that was one of them.

As you say, depends on exactly what the slug can and can't do. Would suck to be the slug and essentially like someone in a vegetative state; you can see and hear everything but you can't influence the world you are in. Trapped in your own (or in this case someone elses) body without a means of expressing anything. Sounds like my idea of hell.

The Trill hosts usually seem to be the ones in charge, though that could be just because the symbiont isn't usually seen.
The body's probably controlled by both, assuming the symbiont is actually conscious during the whole thing; it might actually sleep through its joined life, with the time more of a dream than anything else.

Jadzia had to go through some kind of special ceremony to relive past memories from past hosts in that one episode. Which leads me to believe that it isn't as easy as just flipping a switch like the slugs from Stargate could do on a whim. Trills seem to be in charge and you have to go through at least some effort to get the slugs point of view.

I'd pick an augment, preferably made in the 24th century where I can compete with the Borg for supremacy.
I would, however, like to be on the Federations good side.
That way I can have their ships transport me around and help kick Borg ass whenever the need arises.
